I am telling the rest of the family not to panic before he has a biopsy done, but I wanted to ask the typical age someone gets lung cancer. I think its very rare for someone his age.

lung cancer isn't rare if you are constantly breathing in toxic fumes(you might as well just call it smoking)

Cancer is one of those diseases that doesnt discriminate by age. Sorry to hear. It really depends on family history, medical history and if that person is a smoker or is around smokers alot that really predisposes that person to any type of cancer. Hope he has a good prognosis.

Never too young. It depends on family history, Smoker, Career, exposure, Lots of things. Good luck to him.

Age absolutely has a major role in the possibility of having lung cancer and family history has just about none. When it does occur in young people smoking has nothing to do with it either. 0.2% of all lung cancers occur in patients under 35 years old, most occur between 60-70 years old. So yes you are correct it is not likely to be lung cancer.
