How soon after lung cancer lobectomy can you go back to work?
It has been 5 months since the surgery, and I am 70. Also, how long should pain last after this surgery? I still have front and back rib pain.

Where do you stay? I mean in UK you are classed as retired. Congrats on making such a brill recovery but at aged 70 you shouldn't you proudly your feet up and enjoy the days as your twilight years are about YOU now! Consult a Dr for your options .

Two to three months to recover. As far as the soreness and pain this can take as long as six to eight months. Your pain may be from adhesion's forming around the scars. Talk to your physician about the level of pain and when they feel that you can go back to work. Some doctors believe that you should go on disability while others believe that work (for some people) is motivation to survive. You may not want to sit in a chair in the sun or watch the sunset. My grandfather ran a post office well into his nineties. Another one retired at sixty five and never looked back. Bottom line for most doctors is do what you can and try to do more or the same each day. It's that old quality of life thing.
