I have always read and heard that MJ cures cancer. How could a man, who never smoked anything more than MJ die of lung cancer

he could of got cancer from nothing but natural causes. Marajuana causes cancer . nobody said it cured it people get it prescribed to deal with the pain of cancer

people who dont smoke at all die from lung cancer. plus i think smoking anything has the potential to give u cancer. i think mj is used to help with the side effects of chemo therapy, and help them eat, and relieve the pain, i dont believe its used to cure cancer.

Marijuana is a pain reliever, not a cure. So far, there is no proven cure.

*points up at other answer* Bingo. MJ can help with pain and nausea of cancer and chemo/radiation side effects. We've yet to find a cure for cancer. Smoke going into your lungs is never healthy

sorry about your Uncle. you can get lung cancer other ways besides smoking but smoking is the most common cause. mj only eases the pain of cancer but has nothing to do with a cure

There is no "cure" for cancer whatsoever. Marijuana does not cure cancer, it only helps with the pain and side effects of treatment. However, marijuana does not cause cancer either. There are a TON of reasons that someone could get lung cancer- if they work around harmful chemicals, if they are around second or third hand smoke for much of their lives, and even if they just have the cancer cells and are pre determined to have it... cigarettes are the #1 cause of lung cancer but I work with cancer patients and I have spoken with several lung cancer patients who have never smoked a cigarette a day in their life. The bad thing about cancer is that it doesn't care who you are or what kind of life you lead- it can attack you no matter what. That's why we have to keep up the fight! I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle- please rest assure that he did not do anything to "bring on" the cancer. Marijuana does not aid cancer and certainly does not cause it.

It doesn't CURE cancer, it just slows down cancer cell growth by 30-50%... MJ might have lengthened you uncle's life by a few months ;)

marijuana was never thought to have been a cancer cure. Some cancer patients are in extreme pain and have a drastic loss in apetite, causing them to starve themselves. Marijuana relieves some pain and gives you the munchies, causing you to want to eat.

Mj doesnt cure cancer... it is used to treat the side effects of pain and nausea from the cancer itself or the treatment. There are different types of lung cancer, and people who have never smoked get all of them. Plus, the same chemicals in cig smoke that are linked to cancer are ALSO in marijuana smoke. Marijuana in and of itself may not cause cancer, and may potentially have properties that are useful in other medical situations. But in the smoked form, it DOES carry a risk. There have been studies to see if there is a correlation between marijuana smoke and lung cancer and copd that says smoking marijuana doesnt cause either. Even though I am pro marijuana, I do question the validity of those studies. If those studies are right, then we need to seriously re evaluate why the same chemicals in marijuana smoke dont show a correlation to cancer while they do in cig smoke, and/or the evidence that those chemicals are what leads to the correlation of cancer and cig smoke. Although, some of the chemicals HAVE been highly correlated with cancer in other contexts, such as benzene. Benzene is one of the chemicals in cig smoke, and puts the smoker at higher risk for at least leukemia. That same correlation has been found in other sources of benzene exposure.

I know several people who never smoked a day in their life who died of lung cancer. Smoking is a contributing factor, but certainly not the only factor. MJ does not cure cancer. It is used sometimes to help cancer patients deal with the pain associated with cancer, that's all.
