A friend of the family may have it and she is only 43. She started smoking when she was 20. Isn't that really young to develop lung cancer, even for a smoker? What are her chances of survival if it is caught in time? I know it doesn't look so good for her because it is one of the worst cancers someone can get. I feel so bad for her and she has 3 young grandbabies. :( so sad. I hope she beats the odds.

The good news is that lung cancer has a better outcome now than it did 20 years ago. 43 is very young but 20 years of smoking is very hard on anybody. Hopefully she has quit now and going to try and get it treated for her kids sake. Best wishes

Yes it is rare in people under 45 only 2% of all lung cancer occur in patients under 45 years old. Without knowing what kind of cancer she has and the stage and grade it is nearly impossible to tell you anything, but if it was found at a stage 1-2 her chances of survival a likely to be good.
