What are the causes of lung cancer in dogs

What are the causes of lung cancer in dogs?
I found out today that my 8 year old mini poodle has lung cancer. The vet gave him about a month. It's absolutely devastating. But what they didn't answer is how he got it. Are the causes for lung cancer the same in dogs as it is in humans? If so, how did he get it? Nobody in our house smokes, and he's never been exposed to harmful inhalants. I just want to know if there is anything we did to make him sick, because we have another dog and I do not want him to meet the same fate.

Unfortunately the world we live in and subject our dogs to is often the cause and in other cases , there is no specific cause. You can read more about it from http://www.vetinfo.com/lung-cancer-dogs.html. I'm so very sorry for the news. I too, have lost several animals to various forms of cancer over the years.

Same as with humans, there is no real reasons. We are all born with cancer genes and I feel animals are to. Sorry for your dog, I had a female who lost her life to cancer of the bones in her front legs. It was devastating to us.

I'm so sorry to hear this. No, it was probably nothing you have done, some animals , just like people are predisposed to certain cancers, smoking doesn't cause cancer, it just aggravates cells that are already present in the lungs. Technically we all have cancer cells, whether or not they turn into malignant cancer is dependent on many things, lifestyle is only one. It very well could have simply just been your poodle's genetics. Don't blame yourself, there is nothing you have done to make your puppy sick. I would not be concerned that your other dog will get lung cancer as well.

Our dogs are open to all the environmental and product chemicals the same as we are.... kibble is not the best thing to feed dogs despite what commercials on TV tell us....and many now feed Raw and Bone so they don't feed rubbish to their dogs,such things as 'carbon' in kibble is burnt material to give the colour...that alone is proved as cancerous........ we as a society vaccinate, spray chemicals on pets and give them chemical wormers...............however you can only do your best, learn as you go along and it certainly won't help blaming yourself........sorry about your poodle, he is very young

Do you have a wood stove ??? all dogs have cancer like humans but it is just impossible to tell who will be effected by it I'm sorry I have a dachshund that is loaded with Cancer too she has it in her glans Again I'm sorry :(
