When are treatments against lung cancer most effective

When are treatments against lung cancer most effective?
I've heard and read that radiotherapy is most effective against "early stages" of lung cancer. Usually how long are these "early stages?" One to twelve months? One to six? Help please! Troy I don't smoke. I've never smoked or gotten addicted to smoking im my whole life. :P I'm fourteen. I'm asking this for another reason. I want to comfort someone that I care about.

When the cancer is confined to one lobe of one lung and has not begun to spread. However, it is difficult to catch early, and mortality is extremely high. Just stop smoking. Honestly, you all know the risks, why do you still do it?
2 :
cancer stages are not done by time. the staging is done according to the size of the tumor and if the disease has spread. it also depends on the type of cancer it is- non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) or small cell lung cancer (SCLC) the early stage lung cancer is going to be a small tumor that has not extended beyond the lung(tosurrounding areas like the ribs, esophagus etc.) and with no lymph node involement or metastasis. Lymph node involvement means that the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes-which is the bodies drainage system. from there the cancer cells can spread to pretty much anywhere in the body but for lung cancer the most common places are liver, brain, bone. when the cancer spreads to a different area of the body that is called metastasis. right now, it is believed that a combo of chemotherapy and radiation therapy(radiotherapy) is the best treatment option. but it really depends on the individual case. some people cannot tolerate one or the other of these treatments because of other conditions that they may have. (i am a radiation therapist and treat people with all kinds of cancer. everyones case is different-this info is just the basics) good-luck to you

Surgery is always the most effective treatment for cancer when possible. Cancer treatment is usually done with multiple therapies. They work together. I don't know how you can see one is more "effective" than another. As for rate of progression, that is highly dependent on the mutated genes. When performing analyzing a biopsy sample, the histology report will include a remark about mitosis rate (cell division). So, I don't think you can get a good answer with the few details you provided.
4 :
Cesium chloride with Rubidium and DMSO, oxygen drops, ip6 pills, and aloe vera. Get a fresh aloe vera plant from a flower shop. Cut off the pricks. Cut a chunk off and put it into the blender with ice cream. It will be extremely bitter and thats why we have to put ice cream in there. Drink this every day for a while. This should help cure it OR reduce the cancer. Good luck. Also, using all the cures together will get you better results. Remember to eat bananas or potatoes after taking the cesium chloride because you will lose alot of potassium after taking this medicine...good luck..

Before my dad was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer he had a lots of problem with digestive system like stomach acid nearly every night he would try and throw up but it rarely anything came out. I think meaby cancer was producing somekind of acid that he was trying to vomit.

Yes. But lung cancer does not produce acid. It produces cytokines that make the bowel moves slower. Sometimes things come back up.

Why do some people smoke so many cigarettes when then they know that it can give them lung cancer

Why do some people smoke so many cigarettes when then they know that it can give them lung cancer?
It's bad enough to smoke one, but some people smoke like there's no such thing as lung cancer... like the commercials are only talking foolishness. don't they care about their health?

1 :
because i am a weak idiot
2 :
because they don't care
3 :
Because they are stupid and apparently don't value their life.
4 :
It is called addiction. Why do people eat at McDonalds 3 or 4 times a week knowing their food causes heart disease, obesity and more?
5 :
people use heroin and meth as well I couldn't tell you why.
6 :
Its the nicotine man. Its highly addicting. If smokers jsut stop smoking, they get chills shakes and think they could only stop it by smoking more and more cigs.
7 :
coz its addictive and a stress reliever (apparently) - i gave up months ago woohoo lol
8 :
Because cigarettes are very addictive. Nicotine has been found to actually be more chemically addictive than both heroin and cocaine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotine#Dependence
9 :
You will never understand it unless you smoke. It really is an addiction. You just constantly have a craving for another one. Once you smoke it is like you can't have peace in your head without having one like every hour.
10 :
well it's a "drug addicted"
11 :
Most people who do smoke just don't care. They think about the bad effects of it but then think, "What ever, I'm having a bad day," or "I'm enjoying myself too much right now with this." There are many reasons to quit and none to start really.
12 :
Well i guess they get addicted and they cant stop, but if they were smart and really cared about their health, they would do whatever they could to quit. But thats my guess, i wish i really knew too :]
13 :
uhhh..... because they are stupid for getting addcited in the first place
14 :
Cigarettes are VERY addictive due to nicotine, making some people unable to quit, or even think seriously about it. The better question is why people start smoking in the first place, when the the health consequences are now well documented.
15 :
I've wondered that same thing. I can't figure out why anyone would light up the first one knowing they'll be addicted. It's the filthiest habit.....smokers drop their half-smoked cigarettes or the butts just anywhere....someone's yard, in front of public places, parking lots, the street, etc. I truly don't care if they want to harm their own bodies, but to subject MINE to it is just wrong.
16 :
They smoke , knowing it can cause lung cancer , for the same reason that people over-eat knowing that it will make them fat and bring on many health problems . Or for the same reason that people use booze or drugs knowing that it's very dangerous to their health .
17 :
its not that they dont care, some of them just might be addicted to the nicotine. they have to be strong to be able to actually give up a cigarette. and kick the addiction.
18 :
ACTUALLY, MANY OF THEM DO! they know its bad but cant stop! nicotine is addictive...once they have it, they HAVE to have more...otherwize they get horrible cravings, horribly sick, and very irritable...it messes up the chemical making in their brain...my mom finally quit after 27 years and she did it with chantix...she said the pills messed with her brain...she felt horrible and sick all the way through it but she is happy for the difference it made...she never thought she could stop
19 :
because when they started they thought it was cool then it became aditive and now they can't stop. It is called self control and they don't have it....I have never smoked and I would rather die they light up a cigerette....GROSS!
20 :
It's not a matter of intellect or concern for your own health, it's very, very addictive. I don't know how I ever quit but I'm glad I did. We do things everyday that are a danger to our health such as eat unhealthy foods and speed while driving. It's just another one of those things...
21 :
Because I want to commit suicide slowly.
22 :
A Nicotine addiction is difficult to overcome. It takes some effort and presistance to break a nicotine habit, many succeed, after many trials, they need to be encouraged to try again and again until they get free. Looking a addictions to many different substances , self destruction........ is ineed ,in question.....
23 :
yes they do care about there health and even though they know about what it dose to them, they continue to smoke because its addicting and its really hard to just stop.
24 :
Well cigarettes are very addicting and after you get used to the awful taste, smell, and the large stomach aches they are addicting and people get sick without them. This is because their body has learned to live with the nicotine and now relies on it, so with out it you feel dreadful.
25 :
Because it's an addition, svoloch' and apparently you do not understand the craving and "hunger" that addiction causes you. I myself am addicted to blood and must drink my fill lest I suffer horrible pains and suffering. So have a heart for the poor proletariat member who needs a smoke to calm his nerves after being forced into the slavery of American capitalism by rich elitist geshtupniks, dahling, and don't be so bourgeois.
26 :
becouse you get addicted doh
27 :
Why do some people assume that people who smoke don't know what the risks are? But...just a little bit of info for you...a lot of people who smoke didn't know about the risks when they first started. Now...it's too late. I guess people don't believe that nicotine is more addictive than heroin. Why aren't you asking the people who do heroin the same question. You wouldn't because it's ok for them to be addicted and to use that as their excuse, but it's not for smokers.

Be happy you had her for 3.5 years! My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that spread to her brain and other organs in May 2005 and died Aug 2005. She was 69 years old and a very active dancer! Count your blessings! Your very lucky! It's a horrible disease!

I am a nursing student set to graduate in December. We happen to be studying cancer right now and according to our textbook 14% of patients diagnosed with lung cancer make the 5 year survival rate. Congratulations and I hope you cherish every day. I lost my 45 year old dad in November to lung cancer, it is a devastating disease! God Bless!

On average, how long will someone with stage 4 lung cancer live?
My grandma was just diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and I know she won't recover from this so how long do you think she will live? The doctors said about a year but she could live 5 years...

I am so sorry of your Grandma's diagnoses. Trying to figure out how long a person can live after a lung cancer diagnoses is very difficult to determine. It highly depends how much the cancer has spread and which organs are affected. With me, I was told perhaps one year with treatment, but on May 15, it will be three years since my dx and have had chemo which has likely helped stabilize my cancer. With stage iv lung cancer, only 2% of people live for five years.. at least those are the stats I was told.. its so different for everyone. Often with treatment, people can even go into remission for years. I wish all the best for your family.

how old are u hun?? http://www.ehow.com/about_5456138_signs-symptoms-lung-cancer-children.html are u coughing?? doed ur chest hurt?? u should really ask a adult to get you to a doctor...asthma is common amoung kids. the only way to know is get checked.im sure its no big deal.
2 :
asthma shares characteristic of cancer in hard of breathing however cancer has the following features as well the asthma doesnt have: - chest (lung) pain that does not go away - phlem with blood - periodic pneumonia if u dont have these, u probably has asthma, especially for a 12 yrs old (too young to have cancer).
3 :
it is extremely unlikely that you would have lung cancer at your age-unless you work in a coal mine and smoke 3 packs a day. this just shows you need smarter friends. you could have asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, a cold...see your pediatrician if you also have a fever-otherwise see if you're better by next week.
4 :
Lung cancer at your age would be very very very very very unlikely. Almost impossible. Check out www.cancer.gov and look at the lung cancer section. In fact it is a very uncommon condition for people under the age of 44.
