Unfortunately, Yes.

It is possible to have to cancers at the same time. when you get one cancer and it is aggressive it can spread to other parts of your body and become that kind as well. My high school counselor had breast cancer that spread and became brain cancer. My friend has testicular cancer that spread and became lymphoma as well...Hope this helped and I hope everything turns out really well for your dad and family. My thoughts are for you.
3 :
It is not uncommon to have 2 types of cancer at one time, but just because he has a tumor in his lung, it does not mean it is lung cancer. It is possible that it is lymphoma, or a fungal infection, or something else. His doctors will need to try to make sure. The most accurate diagnosis will be made with a biopsy. If a biopsy is not possible, then they will make their presumptive diagnosis based on the other tests and scans. Having two cancers at once is not the same as having a cancer which has spread. Cancer which spreads to another part of the body is still called by its original name. Testicular cancer which spreads to the liver is metastatic testicular cancer, not liver cancer. Breast cancer which spreads to the brain or bone is metastatic breast cancer, not brain cancer or bone cancer. Because lymphoma and leukemia are present in the circulatory systems of the body, their spread is not referred to as 'metastasis.' Instead, doctors will talk about progression, relapse, and remission. Best of luck to your father.

How likely is it to survive stage four lung cancer

How likely is it to survive stage four lung cancer?
Stage 4 Lung Cancer anddd a required leg amputation for a woman in her 50s with various other health problems

Stage 4lung cancer is not curable.
2 :
Almost half of the people diagnosed with lung cancer are already at stage 4. It is NOT curable at that stage.
3 :
Gosh, I'm sorry. Stage 4 cancer alone would be a challenge without all the additional issues. From what I've read, and I had a friend and a sister who had the diagnosis, it is treatable, however, not curable. There's some basic information on about.com, see the link below. If it were me or someone I loved, I would encourage treatment and support and would have a serious sit-down talk with friends and family. And I would get my things in order to not have anything to worry about on down the line and focus only on treatment and wellness. Elizabeth Edwards, wife of the former presidential candidate John Edwards, has lived with stage four cancer, since her cancer returned in 2007 though it has continued to spread, metastasizing in a number of spots in her body. That's one of the additional challenges. Whatever the situation it is, whether you or a friend or family member, you have my sincerest wishes and hope. Life is different to be sure, but there is more. If it were me, I've talked about this for years, I'd hop on a plane and go to the place where I am the happiest and spend some good solid time there. My advice for someone in this situation, joy and laughter trump illness, do everything you can to laugh, to feel to live and receive that gift with open arms. Sadly, my friend succumbed to ill effects from the treatments. But my sister, well, I did everything I could to make sure my sister laughed every chance I could - she's a survivor, 7 years now. My best wishes. http://lungcancer.about.com/od/typesoflungcancer/a/stage4lungca.htm

Stage 4 lung cancer life expectancy can vary considerably among different people. the factors include lung cancer type and location •Your age •Your sex •Your general health at the time of diagnosis •How you respond to treatment-- amoung other factors. That said, the median stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer life expectancy (the time at which 50% of patients are alive and 50% have passed away) is only around 8 months. The 5-year survival rate, that is the percent of people who are expected to be alive 5 years after a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer is sadly less than 10%. While stage 4 lung cancer is not usually curable, it is treatable. with the other health problems involved i would say (and i think you already know the answer) the out come it not good.

What should i expect with liver and lung cancer

What should i expect with liver and lung cancer?
my grandad has very recently been diagnosed with cancer, he has been told it is in his liver, his lungs and also his lymph glands and he has about 5 -6 weeks left. Can this be true when he is very well in himself, he is not yellow in colour, he simply went to the doctor 2 weeks ago with lack of appetite and a slight pain above his stomach. he seems very well at the moment. Will this deteriorate very quickly?

Probably. My best friend dad discovered he had stomach/liver cancer, and he didn't detect it till late, and it spread to his brain and the day before he was helping build a house. Then within a few days, he couldn't get out of bed. It also depends on how bad the cancer is.
2 :
I am very sorry to hear about your grandfather. It is hard to see someone you love have their world turned upside down. I am sure it is not easy for you and your family... I wish you all the strength at this time to be able to deal with this situation. I work on an oncology floor as a nurse, and I have seen patients fine one day and very sick the next. I have also seen patients who are told they have a short while outlast everyone's expectations. Prepare yourself for the worst... reality. That way if things are better than you have been told you are pleasantly surprised, but with cancer, always expect the worse. It is an aweful disease. Lung cancer usually doesn't cause symptoms until the late stages. By the time it is caught, it is usually stage 3-4. It sounds like your grandfather's cancer already spread seeing how it was found in more than one place. Depending on all of the medications your grandfather is on.. you can expect him to be very fatigued. If he is comfort meausres only they will be giving him medications to make him comfortable. He will probably sleep a lot. I am not sure what else I can tell you to expect without knowing his case, but spend as much time with him as you can. Enjoy more moments with him. Just remember... as fatigued as he may get, he can always hear you, so don't be afraid to talk to him. I really wish you and your family all the strength at this time. God bless your grandfather.
3 :
wish i could cuddle you yes this is true he will deteriorate quickly though no one can put exact time limit these doctors are dealing with this day in and day out so they do know talk to you grandad make the most of your time together tell him you love him give him a cuddle if you are taking it bad just think how he is feeling your gran your mum and dad this is a confusing and frightening time for everybody in one way you are lucky you get to say how much you love him you wont feel that now but maybe latter on i didn't get that chance with my dad and was so sorry angry and hurt so make the most of the time you have hope everything goes ok take care and again i am so sorry
4 :
You didn't say how old your grandad is. If it is in one lobe of the liver, they may be able to do a liver re-section and remove the bad part. A new liver will grow in. He can get chemo for his lungs and lymph glands. All is not lost, don't give up. I have come through cancer of the cervix, colon, liver and lungs and I'm still here and in pretty d**ned good shape too, I might add. By the way, I was stage 4 for 3 of them.

How do I look for leading physicians ( oncologists ) that specialize in lung cancer or thoracic cancer in CA

How do I look for leading physicians ( oncologists ) that specialize in lung cancer or thoracic cancer in CA?
Okay, my grandmother just got diagnosed with Stage 3a lung cancer and I am looking for leading oncologists in california. I would especially like those who specialize in lung cancer if possible. Does anyone have any tips or websites on where I should begin my search. We are searching ONLY IN CALIFORNIA, but anywhere throughout California is fine. Thank you!! Any experience with any oncologists, good or not, would be appreciated as well.... =)

Pick a large, reputable medical centre. Your grandmother may need consultation with a variety of different specialists and it will be easier to deal with at one big institution.
2 :
try these websites: www.cancer.org www.mdanderson.org (Texas, but rated best in country. It is where my husband goes now, and where I went) www.cancercare.org www.cancer.gov As far as experience, I am a survivor (4 1/2 years) of cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancers. I had great doctors at M. D. Anderson. My husband was diagnosed with cancer recently and is going to M. D. Anderson for radiation therapy. It is a very hard row to hoe, but it is worth it everyday of my life. Good Luck.

Medicine is a $1.1 trillion a year business in this country, and the system is set up to suck the wealth and life out of the American public. Only 1 in 3 people with cancer live for 5 years after diagnosis, and that number hasn't changed significantly in the last 30 years, despite many billions being spent of 'research' every year. I have cancer now. I'm disgusted with the system, and have turned to alternative medicine since my doctors have told me there is no hope. Bitter? Yes, I am--and my anger has motivated me to learn about repressed natural methods of disease control. You are just starting in the meat grinder right now, and I strongly urge you to look for an answer besides artificial drugs, surgery and radiation. Here are some books I have read from cover to cover, that are now helping me to survive way beyond my doctors' grim predictions-- "The Cure for All Cancers" "A Cancer Therapy" "Oxygen Therapies" "Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle" "The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium" "Killing Cancer" "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About" There are many other good books about surviving this disease, and you should know about this option, even if you choose to go the traditional route with it's abysmal prognosis. Best of luck.

Lung cancer was discovered by who and when

Lung cancer was discovered by who and when?
Lung cancer was discovered by who and when and any history on the lung cancer is needed?

Some 150 years ago, it was an extremely rare disease. In 1878, malignant lung tumors represented only 1% of all cancers seen at autopsy in the Institute of Pathology of the University of Dresden in Germany. By 1918, the percentage had risen to almost 10% and by 1927 to more than 14%. In the 1930 edition of the authoritative Springer Handbook of Special Pathology it was duly noted that malignant lung tumors had begun to increase at the turn of the century and perhaps even more so after World War I and that, possibly, they still were on the increase. It was also noted that while most lung tumors occurred in men, there seemed to be a steady increase in women. Duration of the disease, from being recognized until death, was usually from half a year to 2 years and in practically all cases there had been a long history of chronic bronchitis.
2 :
People have been dying from people as long as there have been people. In the old days they called cancer "consumption" before they even knew what a cell was. And I'm sure people had it in the lungs too, and they saw cancer during disections of smokers and coal miners who died from it.

what is the survival rate of lung cancer

what is the survival rate of lung cancer?
my mom has lung cancer and she stopped smoking a week and a half ago? She is getting chemotherapy next week. what's gonna happen? Does chemo therapy work? she does not cough alot or cough up blood but her lung hurts.

i am afraid the survival rate here also depends on the stage of cancer. yes chemo does work. and surgery,if possible,is the best. may God bless your mom. my dad's also undergoing cancer treatment right now.
2 :
the survival rate deeply depends on the stage of the cancer. so hopefully its in the first stages. if so, the chemo( or surgery) will help greatly. otherwise, its still worth a try and hopefully God will help her and her family. * i promise i will pray for your family

Why wouldn't endometriosis make your insides hurt? The few people I know that had it described symptoms just like yours. I doubt it's lung cancer. Drink some chammomile tea and soothe all your pent up nerves in there. Also, try to breathe with your diaphram, so that when you breathe in your tummy swells out and not your chest. At first it's uncomfortable for some people, but in about ten minutes I bet you'll feel at least a little better.
