3 :
1 - don't smoke - anything -#2 avoid inhaling chemicals & other carcinogens.
4 :
dont smoke, avoid places that is so dusty and smokey such as in bars, billiard hall, all smoking ares, keep out, even in busy streets, try always bringing hankerchief to cover you nose and mouth
5 :
Agree don't smoke. Also don't inhale with your mouth near a smoker, instead breath with your nose because breathing with your nose can reduce the intake of the chemicals in the smoke by lets see about 50%. Breathing with ur mouth takes 75% of the chemicals in the smoke. If possible stay away from smokers.

What steps must be done to counter a high level lung cancer

What steps must be done to counter a high level lung cancer?
Well.......to put it short... My uncle is about 73 years old and he has a high lung cancer. If there a rating between 1 to 10, it's level 8. He was smoking since age 14 and hide from telling his cancer problems for at least 7 until just recencly...so that was expected. Is there anyway to at least make the cancer stationary, reverse, or to counter the effect completely?

As the family member of lung cancer sufferers, if the doctors have not offered any other advice - there may be no others. Sad to say but something such as this is the only real time that most tobacco users finally pay attention - once the damage is big time done. Thanks for caring! Just use this example to your friends and family as the whynotto reason for their own addictions.

depends on whether it has spread to other organs or to his lymph nodes. if not it can be cut out, if so it is almost impossible to cure. chemo and radiation can help make his life longer. make sure he follows up with his doc and sees an oncologist.
3 :
Lung carcinoma is a malignant lung tumor usually categorized as small cell or non–small cell. Cigarette smoking is the major risk factor for most types. Symptoms include cough, chest discomfort, and, less commonly, hemoptysis, but many patients are asymptomatic and some present with metastatic disease. Diagnosis is suspected by chest x-ray or CT scan and confirmed by biopsy. Treatment is with surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation therapy. Despite advances in treatment, the prognosis is poor, and attention is focused on early detection and prevention. Worldwide, the 5 most common types of cancer that kill men are (in order of frequency): lung, stomach, liver, colorectal and oesophagus. Tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of cancer in the world. A third of cancers could be cured if detected early and treated adequately. 40% of cancer could be prevented, mainly by not using tobacco, having a healthy diet, being physically active and preventing infections that may cause cancer. Please see the web pages for more details on Lung cancer.

This same thing is happening to my Dad and he never smoked. They can give him radiation to treat the pain in some spots and the spread of other spots with about a 50% chance of helping with either. He can take chemo to make the tumors smaller and maybe buy him some time. Do you know what kind of lung cancer? What organs has it spread to? There are 4 stages of lung cancer with 4 being the worse. My Dad was a stage 4 at th time of diagnosis at Thanksgiving and I'm not sure he will live long enough to see the superbowl. The decline is so rapid. There is no cure for lung cancer and the treatment is often worse than the disease. He should make his final plans and get his comfort issues resolved. Goos luck---I empathize with you completely.

Cancer consists of cells which grow in an uncontrolled manner. When they grow they obstruct blood vessels, lymph fluid pathways etc. See your doctor/surgeon/oncologist for follow up care. They may prescribe diuretics. Good luck and best wishes.

How long would it take to get lung cancer by smoking a 1/2 pack a day

How long would it take to get lung cancer by smoking a 1/2 pack a day.?

from 2 years to never, depending on your genetics, other exposures etc.
2 :
It is different for different people. It isn't worth the risk. Lung cancer is not necessarily the main concern with smoking. Cardiovascular concerns are also very important
3 :
cancer cannot be predicted. you can get lung cancer even with secondhand smoking. depends on how vulnerable your lung cells and alveoli are to tar
4 :
I do know that you lose 5 minutes of your life everytime you smoke a cigarette.
5 :
everybodies , body is diff, you can get it right after you smoke a cigg, not knowing that you have it
6 :
I don't know...I think you should try think about how to get stop smoking instead and think about your family and friends(if you have any) They love you and want to see you well, not with lung cancer.
7 :
There can be no clear cut answer. Cancer is not that simple to understand. I lost 2 of my relatives to lung cancer and they never smoked. they did not work in a second hand smoke environment or their job was in an office and, get this - they were young. They were tee-totallars to boot. Straight and narrow like an arrow. You could be lucky and live a ripe old age and you could be still smoking half a pack a day. You could get a dianosis tomorrow that is positive for the Big C. No one knows. You could wait and see - no one could give you a straight answer in this Y!A or your doctor or anywhere else for that matter. Here is my suggestion - keep smoking. Life is short. Enjoy it to the fullest when you can. Just keep an eye on the number smoked. To make a point, the advocacy groups talk too much about the ills of smoking. While it is there, no denying it, so are many other things in life. Nobody talks about them. Like exhaust fumes from cars for example. I think the smoking advisory is overdone. FYI - I am a non smoker. Never touched it, never will. Good luck.
8 :
your unhealthy lifestyle will definitely precipitate mutations in your body cells and cause it to form abnormal cells, this abnormal cells pile on top of each other and form a tumor and in the long run they spread - that's where cancer starts. if you have had relatives who died with any form of cancer then cancer is in your bloodline which increases your risk of developing lung cancer faster. it may be several years from now but the problem with lung cancer is it's very hard hard to diagnose it early because the only symptom usually is only cough from time to time. when detected it is usually too late, and the client dies within months or even a few days. if you have no cancer in your bloodline, it might took long as many years but it won't take long for other chronic infectious pulmonary diseases to hit you. take care of yourself.

Does breathing easier after exercise mean it's probably not lung cancer

Does breathing easier after exercise mean it's probably not lung cancer?
I've been worried cause I seem to get really winded quickly when I sing now but I seem to breathe easier after I exercise. I definitely have allergies that make it more difficult to breathe through my nose but I feel like its not just my nose anymore but my lungs just have less capacity (breathing through mouth feels better but still like I take in less air). i seem to breathe a tiny bit easier when I'm lying on my back too. Do you guys think I can rule out lung cancer?

If you feel that you have lung cancer maybe it's time to get a chest x-ray. Cancer is not something you want to fool around with. If you are young and haven't been exposed to allot of chemicals, or smoked you are probably alright. Maybe you have asthma check with your doctor.
2 :
no, you might have cancer.

That can not be known, some people smoke their entire lives and never get cancer. Just be careful with what you put into your body.
2 :
You don't. Cigarettes don't give you cancer. Stop listening to your government.
3 :
you want lung cancer? Marborol reds did the trick for my dad tear off the filter OK?
4 :
ALL cigarettes cause lung cancer
5 :
It's the exact same shiit, I am not one of those environmental F.A.G.S, but it would be aprrecitated if you stop smoking, becuase your not only causing yourself lung cancer, but also me and the people you smoke around, the truth is all types of cigarettes will get you soon
6 :
smoking any substance can harm lung tissue.
7 :
Just quit smoking! There is no brand less likely to cause cancer; there are some brands such as filterless that have an even larger incidence of lung cancer, but all cigarettes have a great risk of causing lung cancer as well as many other cancers. It sounds as though you have the will power to quit. Do it now and in 10 years your risk for lung cancer will be the same as a nonsmoker. You are young; youhave so much time to stop the ill effects you are causing to your body. The carbon monoxide in ciagarettes is basically starving your body from getting oxygen. Hemoglobin in the body has an affinity for carbon monoxide more than oxygen; when present carbon monoxide will attach to the hemoglobin instead of the oxygen thereby depriving your body and tissues, heart, kidneys, liver, etc...of the needed and appropriate amounts of oxygen. Overtime this causes damage. Hemoglobin is what carries oxygen from your lungs to the tissues throughout the body. Trust me when I say that you do not want to end up with COPD or emphysema either. Those are both lung diseases that can be caused from smoking. I am a nurse and I have cared for many patients with lung cancer and with emphysema and COPD. It is horrible for the patient to go through. They in essence feel like they are constantly being smothered, unable to get a good breath, cancer patients suffer severe pain. Also, lung cancer by the time it is found is usually beyond the point of "cure" and reallly just at a prolong life as long as possible and keep comfortable. Lung cancer usually metastasizes to the brain and liver. If you do not feel you can quit on your own try wellbutrin (generic for Zyban). I smoked for an unbelievable amount of years (started when I was 11) I quit when I was 29. I have been quit for 7 years now. I used the wellbutrin. You continue to smoke while you are on the pills. You pick a date sometime within 2-3 weeks of taking the pills; after the first week the doseage gets increased; it starts to make cigs feel uneffective, so you start to smoke more, then they start to taste gross, so you start to cut down (you also have to make that choice to try to cut down also), work on cutting down till you get to your date then just stop on that date. Find some mints or something to fill the void of the smokes. It is still hard, but let me tell you it really takes the edge off and with determination you can do it! I hope you will take care of yourself and quit! Good Luck!

My dad is 43 an has stomach and lung cancer since 2006 he beat it once but it came back and its worse. I would like to kno what his chances of beating it again are?

You are not being very clear. Your dad is very young for either type of cancer and it is very unlikely he had both. He probably had stomach cancer that spread to his lungs. I am sorry to tell you if this, but if this is the case, he didn’t beat it the first time, but his treatment worked very well. Treatment at this stage is to prolong life with the best quality possible, but it is not curable.
2 :
He has his age on his side, and depending on his present state of health has a lot to do with if he can beat it down again. Normally second time around its fast and furious, but since its been three years, his body may be able to cope with the treatments again. Plus there are new drugs to try then there were three years ago.
3 :
I AM VERY SORRY TO HEAR THAT MY DAD DIED LAST YEAR FROM CANCER OF THE LUNGS AND SPREAD TO THE BRAIN THE DOCTOR TOLD US THE TREATMENT WAS TO PROLONG HIS LIFE I WOULD IMAGINE IT DEPENDS ON WHAT STAGE HE IS IN AND HOW WELL HE CAN TOLERATE THE CHEM OR RADIATION I THINK AFTER A WHILE THE BODY GETS USED OR THE CANCER TO THE TREATMENT AND SOMETIMES DOES NOT WORK AS WELL YOU NEED TO SEE WHAT TREATMENTS ARE AVAILABLE THEY PUT MY DAD ON SOME EXPERIMENTAL MEDS THAT ALMOST GOT RID OF IT THEN THE CANCER GOT IMMUNED AND HE COULD ONLY DO IT FOR 6 WEEKS PLEASE SEE WHAT OPTIONS ARE OUT THERE AND TALK TO THE DOCTOR ALSO GET A SECOND OPINION THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT FINDS HOPE WITH MULTIPLE DOCTORS AS THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT IN THE TREATMENT THAT THEY CHOOSE GOOD LUCK
4 :
My dad also had stomach/pancreas cancer, they weren't sure where it originated from. He passed away 10 months later. I wish I had done more then and had the knowledge that I do now. It took us several months to even convince him to try the Mayo Clinic. I feel like if we had gone sooner they might have been able to do something. Don't be afraid to ask questions and demand answers. Who cares if you offend the doctor or anyone else, this is your dad's life! Most importantly don't have regrets in case the worst does happen. Say what you want to say and spend time together even if prognosis is good. This is your dad and he won't be around forever unfortunatley. I wish you good luck!
5 :
If the cancer cells are the same type as the first time around he's had a three year remission. Unfortunately the second time around the cancer is usually much more aggressive. And the treatment is rougher on the body. So your dad may get a lot sicker this time around. However with newer drugs and treatments, or a clinical trial he can go into remission again. Possibly for years. He has age on his side. The downside is that it's his second time around. He needs his family support team like never before. Just be there for him and love him all you can. He's your dad. you only get one in this life.

stoStomach Cancer Symptoms http://howtotreatcancer.com/ Stomach cancer is one of the most common types of cancers. Almost a million people get diagnosed with stomach cancer every year throughout the world ... Stomach Cancer: Growth of carcinogenic cells in stomach leads to cancer of stomach. There are mainly two types of stomach cancer known as intestinal stomach cancer (this type of cancer is common in people of old age) and diffuse type (which is common in people of certain group, surprisingly people in certain geographical area such as Japan, Korea etc. are more prone to stomach cancer than any other place on earth). Most of the sufferers of stomach cancer are people above age 70 and majority of which involve men patients. Who is at risk? People who eat less or no vegetables and more preservative added food or junk food are at highest risk of developing stomach cancer. Also people in their old age (people of age group 65 and above) are at high risk. Along with the above specified possible risk groups, people who are suffering (or those who had history of) from certain types of diseases such as Achlorhydria, Pernicious Anaemia, bacterial infections of stomach (helicobacter pylori). People who smoke are also at high risk of developing stomach cancer. In some cases, stomach cancer has been witnessed to be hereditary (Although this scenario is very rare, any possibility cannot be denied). Diagnosis of Stomach Cancer: There are quite a couple of tests used to confirm stomach cancer in patients, however endoscopy is highly trusted test which varies in complexity based on the situation. Blood sample test and biopsy (samples of cells from the inside lining of the stomach are taken) can also be utilized in order to find out any abnormality. A small robotic tool is used to take pictures of inside of the stomach to find out any abnormal growth which can act as an alarm raiser. Ultrasound scanning also can be used to diagnose stomach cancer. Barium meal (white barium liquid) test also can be used to diagnose this disease in which once the liquid is consumed by the patient, the patient's stomach is examined using X-rays. Along with the above specified techniques, there are many other screening tests available for diagnosis of stomach cancer such as gastroscopy, biopsy and microscopy etc. What are the symptoms of stomach cancer? Stomach cancer shows very little or almost no symptoms in its early stage. Occasionally, patient may experience a very light stomach ache. Once the cancer starts growing strong, patient may experience severe stomach ache, loss of weight due to loss of appetite, blood in stool, bloating problem (or bloated feeling) after eating anything, abdominal pain and discomfort, any type of change in bowel habits, Ascites, Jaundice and nausea are few of the symptoms those make life difficult for the patient. With the advancement of time, new techniques are also being invented to confirm the growth of stomach cancer. What are the different type of treatments available for stomach cancer? Like any other type of cancers, treatment options for stomach cancer also involve chemotherapy, surgery and medication. In most of the cases, surgery is used to remove a part of or entire stomach. Success of surgery in stomach cancer depends on the stage in which stomach cancer was detected (which is very low as most of the cases are diagnosed in advanced stage of stomach cancer). At times, the treatment of stomach cancer may include combination of surgery and medication to help eliminate carcinogen cells from body after a surgery to remove infected part of or entire stomach. Radiotherapy and biological therapy (also known as immunological therapy) are also used to destroy carcinogen cells from the patient's body. Along with the above mentioned treatment methods, there are many other methods and drugs currently under trial. Most of the treatments specified above show significant side effects on the patient's health, hence it is very important to follow a proper diet regime and medication in order to cope up with the problems caused by those side effects. How should I minimize my risk of stomach cancer? 1) Quit smoking, as smokers are at the highest risk level of developing any type of cancer. 2) Try to include vegetables and fruits in your daily diet and avoid junk or processed food. 3) Try to avoid toxic substances such as chemicals etc. Take necessary precautions before you handle such things. 4) Exercise regularly in order to stay fit and active. Is there an official cure for Lung Cancer

Is there an official cure for Lung Cancer?
No, I do NOT have Lung Cancer. I'm doing this for my homework. :D And I'm not sure whether there is an official cure yet.

No, there is no cure for any type of cancer.
2 :
There have been thousands of cases of lung cancer cured. It has involved surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. You need to do a web search to find the most current treatments.
3 :
THere isnt an OFFICIAL cure for any type of cancer. Todays test cant detect one single cancer cell. It can lay dormat for years, the revive. 20 years later, you have cancer again. You were never cured, only in remission. Without the ability to detect a single cancer cell, no one with any sense of liability or medical sense will label any treatment as a cure
4 :
In those terms...there is no "official" cure. But there is cure for lung cancer. There are many types of lung cancer depending of the cell lineage. And depending on the type it will respond to treatment/cure. It also depends on the extension of the cancer if it is very small and has not spread you could just cut it out in its entirety...and voila! your cured. Unfortunately that is not always the case and if it has spread you cannot cut everything out and chemotherapy/radiotherapy are needed. This is a very complex question but to make it short: is there a cure: YES. but it depends on the type of lung cancer, size. and has it spread? Hope this helps.
5 :
no there is no official cure for lung cancer or any cancer... but if caught early most cancers can be cured...usually by surgery!
6 :
CANCER: On the news this guy who drank human breast milk (with a prescription) beat cancer. It was discovered by Swedish scientists found that human breast milks kills cancer in a petri dish by accident. People who drink it have had some success in fighting off cancer. You need a prescription and it's about $3 an ounce at a breast milk bank, but it works. http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20061209/bob8.asp http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4187697.stm
