yup, with a family history of lung cancer, your risks are four times greater. Suggest you quit smoking, unless of course you don't care about dieing from lung cancer.
2 :
you're putting toxic in your body PURPOSELY y? your lung hate it that's why it's getting badder and badder the more you smoke
3 :
I wouldn't worry too much medical stuff is coming on leaps and bounds, conditions can be treated now that were a death sentence only a few years ago
4 :
The probability is high unless you stop smoking now.I know its hard to do but if you set your mine to it ,you can do it.I smoke for 43 years and stop a year and half ago.If i can stop anyone can.
5 :
So long as you are smoking, you are at high risk. You are exposing yourself to high levels of toxins. Cancer often results because of high toxicity. The earlier you stop smoking, the better it will be for you. Read more about lung cancer here http://www.healthandwellnesscentral.com/Article/Early-Detection-For-Lung-Cancer/10989
6 :
Anybody who smokes has a higher risk for lung cancer, regardless of family history, but with your family history smoking will very much increase your risk. Smoking increases your risk for lung cancer by about 23 times.
7 :
Your risk is increased with your grandfather dying of cancer and with you smoking. I would urge you to quit. I know it is hard. Check into Chantix. It worked for me.

What is the chance of a teenager getting lung cancer

What is the chance of a teenager getting lung cancer?
I'm 17 and have smoked 2-3 cigaretts a day for about a year and decided to quit recently. I have read a sign of lung cancer is shortness of breath which I've been having the last 2 days. Is it because I'm craving nicotine that I feel like getting fresh air and having the need to take deep breath?

quit now while you can. takes the body about 6 wks to adjust without nicotine and don't substitute chewing tobacco unless you want drains coming out of your face or you get a surgical infection or need your tongue/esophagus/neck cut out and you get emphysema. Lung cancer is possible, rare in your age group even from smoking, but we already have a lethal air pollution problem, so, combined w smoking, who knows. and our food/water supply is tainted, does make your odds increase..how can you afford them anyway? Why do you want to support tobacco grower families in their corrupt lifestyle, now that's some type of slavery, smoking almost against your will...I could go on, usually just get ugly w yellow teeth, fingers, grey skin /wrinkles from decreased circulation, unless you get a nasty cold/bacteria and die from tar/nicotine in your lungs..
2 :
1 in 3164, assuming it's a non-smoker.
3 :
The chances are close to zero. When a young person gets lung cancer and by young, I mean under 40 years old, it is not due to smoking. 0.2% of all lung cancers occur between the ages of 20-34 and there is no data available for anyone under 20.

How long does a lung cancer patient have to live without treatment

How long does a lung cancer patient have to live without treatment?
My grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer, it has grown from the size of a grape to the size of a golf ball in a month. She won't do any chemo/radiation or surgery, because she wants the time she has left to be good, and the docs said she has a year left. BUT ... first, if it's grown that fast, how can she have a year? And every instance of lung cancer I've ever heard of has had the patients die much sooner ... like Peter Jennings was given six months and lived like two weeks, and another I read about was given a year and died less than three months later. How long does she have, realistically?

Everyone is different. Depends on the growth and if it spreads. BUT, my Mother had a spot on her lung, took a pill instead of chemo again from years ago, I can't remember the name, but if you are interested to find out what it is, I can find out and let you know. She took it for 3 months and the spot is gone. And it never made her sick. She has alzhimers and we didn't want to put her through chemo again. But this worked. However though, the alzhimers is taking it's toll on her now. But, the cancer is gone. Let me know if you need to know the name to discuss this option with your grandmother. Take care.
2 :
i think your grandmonther should try the kenmo my grandmom died from cancer and she lived a good life with the kemo and all and if she beats it she would live way longer then a year
3 :
Being painfully honest about it. Your grandmother probably has longer to live without the chemotherapy treatment than with the treatment. Chemo for lung cancer is very harsh and many people die from side effects of the treatment rather than the cancer itself. No one can tell how long your grandma has to live. That is between her and her God. She made a very brave decision not to accept treatment. I wish more people would make that decision, but when faced with death, people do what they have to do to hang on and I am not one to judge them for that as a matter of fact, I dont know what I would do if faced with the decision. It makes me so upset to administer chemotherapy to an elderly person who has cancer and watch them whither away, but we have to honor their decision and treat them.
4 :
Your grandmother is wise to avoid chemo for lung cancer. It is truly ineffective. It's impossible to predict how long a particular person will live with their cancer. The stats only apply to averages, which consists of those who lived longer and those who lived less time. I cured my own Stage 4 cancer nine years ago with hot peppers, garlic and fish oil. If I had been losing weight, I would have used evening primrose oil in place of the fish oil. Maybe your grandmother would be interested in doing something like that...something that doesn't make a person sick while being treated. Good luck and be well. Kelley

Sometimes there is no way to tell. I have stage iv lung cancer and you would not know it by just looking at me. He may just have a respiratory illness. He may be hiding it if he is losing weight, but that isn't a tell tale sign, I put on 14 pounds while on chemo. There are also some chemo treatments that do not create hair loss so can't go by that either. The only way to know for sure is if he says anything, or you ask him... or wait.. time will tell.

What is a natural way to help lung cancer

What is a natural way to help lung cancer?
I am 19 years old and I have lung cancer the medications the doctors are giving me are making me sicker then I was before I started. Is there any natural way to ease the pain?

Wow lung cancer at 19 is next to impossible unless you are a heavy heavy smoker and started early and have had second hand smoke all your life. Might want to ask your doctors about alternative meds, because with their extensive medical and ocological training, they might know a couple more things than random Yahoo answerers.
3 :
why don't you try black seed oil or black seed pill .. you can buy it in pharmacy.. my mother have diabetes and after taking black seed for 1 month her diabetes is getting better now.. also i had once read about a brain cancer patient who healed after taking black seed for about 6 month.. hope this may help you too..
4 :
I agree, you are indeed unfortunate - lung cancer is rare in one so young; 75% of those diagnosed with it are over 65, age is the greatest risk factor after smoking. What medications have been tried so far? What stage is your cancer? You're asking about pain relief; there may be natural ways to help relieve your symptoms. Talk to your doctor about this
5 :
Obviously, you could ask your doctor about suitable pain relievers. She may suggest ibuprofen. Why not ask? From the side of natural products, taking some anti-inflammatory foods or herbs may help, as pain is sometimes related to inflammation. Direct anti-inflammatory supplements that come to mind would be fish oil, flax seed oil, luteolin (best one that I know is Lutimaxâ„¢), and boswellic acid (5-LoxinĂ‚® is my favorite). A food found helpful with lung cancer is the Select Vegetable product from Sun Farms. It contains several things, among which are mung beans, shiitake mushrooms, Oldenlandia, and Scutellaria barbata.
6 :
I hope you got a second opinion. You are very young to have lung cancer. If the oncologist hasn't given you pain pills (I take a low dose morphine twice a day) or given you a medicine for nausea (there are several good anti nausea drugs on the market, but they make you very, very sleepy,) tell him/her you want to see a pain specialist doctor. These drugs should be taken on a regular schedule, don't wait until the problem arises and try to beat it back. Most of the side effects can be managed. If I can help you please click on my avatar, then on my email.

Prayer can be helpful. Know that God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end -- time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God's Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God's blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can't explain the world's natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner's prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: "Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus' name, amen." I'm Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could check out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group as a good way to learn about God's will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.

What is the association between smoking and dying of lung cancer

What is the association between smoking and dying of lung cancer?
For cigarette smokers the lung cancer mortality rate = 140 per 100000. For nonsmokers the lung cancer mortality rate = 10 per 100000. This is a question in my epidemiology class. And we have to interpret the results. Thanks! We have to calculate the association between smoking adn dying of lung cancer by using the numbers above. Then with that number we have to interpret the results. I'm not sure how to go about doing that.

The smoking part.

3 :
There is a positive correlation between the perceived cause: smoking, and effect: lung cancer. There is some solid evidence that smoking causes lung cancer.
4 :
That means lung cancer is commoner in smokers 14 times the nonsmokers . Smoking is highly associated with squamous cell carcinoma of lung

People on this board sharing experiences and helpful hints between cancer sufferers and you are asking them to do your homework? Maybe reminding them even more of death by cancer? I guess maybe I'm overly touchy and having a not so good day, if I offended excuse me but, I am a little offended.

If a person has lung cancer and lymph nodes are discovered there, can they be cured with radiation or chemo

If a person has lung cancer and lymph nodes are discovered there, can they be cured with radiation or chemo?
My sister was operated on for lung cancer, the mass removed. Now doctors have discoverd lymph nodes at the top of her lungs and are suggesting radiation or chemo. What will be the results? Could she be cured?
Cancer - 1 Answers

Both. Can she be cured is the question. It depends on which TYPE of radiation is used. I wouldn't go for TRADITIONAL radiation. I would use DR. Gil Lederman in New York. http://RSNY.org is his webpage to see what he does, he specialises in this. I went to him for two months. He's fantastic. He will return your call immediately. 1-212-995-6700 ask for RSNY- Dr. Lederman. It is Cabrini Medical Center in Manhattan.2270East 19th Street. Don't be decieved that it looks like an old run down hospital because it's New York. Once you get inside and see the updated equipment, you will be very extremely impressed with this hospital. Also there is a special LUNG HOSPITAL if you google "lung cancer", you will find this. or 'lung cancer hospital'. They even do lung transplants now there. I spoke to a personal representative immediately on line, she recommended a lot of stuff to me, but her alternative thing was MD. ANDERSON cancer clinic in texas. THEN if that didn't work, return to them. So MD worked so far I suppose. My local doctors are working inconnection with MD Anderson, I go back and forth every three months since last July for comparison check ups. So far, at least all we've done this time is it has stopped growing, not illiminating it, but stopped growing, at least. Wow, almost a year, bummer. But this natural stuff, I FEEL it, I feel differently, I can't wait for the next scans! http://www.aworldwithoutcancer also is NATURAL way to go http://healingcanceral naturally.com but slower. Get her the treatments FIRST, then get started on these natural stuff ok? LYMPH NODES is serious, that means that it has spread to the blood stream and is in the REST OF THE BODY. She MUST have Chemotherapy to get those out IMMEDIATELY. Then the radiation probably is how they will do it. Best wishes. Get her started on this natural stuff soon as posssible too. My doctor doesn't care that I am on it. He says philophsy is -- " If you THINK it is working, it MAY help you get better", because it is POSITIVE thinking and he much much believes a cancer patient NEEDS positive thinking. But if a cancer patient doesn't think that a certain treatment he is on will work, there is a very good chance that it won't work. Because of the negative thinking too. What a weird reaction we can have on our own bodies huh? But it's true. My brother in law just died of bladder cancer, he didn't beleive his chemotheraphy or ANY treatments would work on him, he was TOTALLY negative during the year and a half of all his treatments, etc. I could see the difference. Sometimes things would excell to be really good, then he would say, "It's just a fluke", then it would go bad again. So keep her positive. DON'T LET PEOPLE SAY, 'I'm Sorry" to her. Because she already IS. Those words HURT to us. Instead say -- I have heard of your situation and HOPE THINGS WILL IMPROVE or something like that. In other words -- tell them to be positive to her when people visit, do not say negative things like -- I am sorry, that is negative and makes one cry or hurt in heart -- ok? They teach us that in therapy! again, best wishes. It's going to be a LONG hard time ahead. Especially for the care-giver. That person will need help too. so when people ASK -:what can I do? LET THEM HELP. Let them do a "chemo" day with her. LET THEM babysit half a day with her when the time comes, etc OK? It will help her spirits too, EVEN IF SHE SLEEPS through it. She will wake now and then! I spent my time in a huge easy chair in the den or on our couch and my friends and family just surrounded me during the day and literally baby sat me through it and still do. It is amazing how that lifts your spirit.

What is the probability of death due to lung cancer given that the person is a smoker

What is the probability of death due to lung cancer given that the person is a smoker?
A study of residents of a region showed that 20% were smokers. The probability of death due to lung cancer, given that a person smoked, was ten times the probability due to lung cancer, given that the person did not smoke. If the probability of death due to lung cancer in the region is 0.006, what is the probability of death due to lung cancer given that the person is a smoker? Let S be the event the person smokes, let L be the event that a person dies due to lung cancer.
Mathematics - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
For the region, the probability of death independently of the smoking status, is 0,6%. Let's say x is the probability of a non-smoker to die due to LC. Then, a smoker would have 10x. So, beacuse 20% of the residents smoke, for a representative portion of the region's population, numbering 100 people, it is true that: 0,6 = x*80 + 10x*20 0,6 = 80x + 200x 0,6 = 280x x = 0,6/280 = ~0,0214 So, the probability of a smoker is x*10 = 0,214.
