Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer?
My mother in-law had breast cancer in 03 she under went the surgery and chemo treatments and was cancer free, so she thought she requested a PET scan as she works at the Cleveland Clinic and knows that they are very good at finding cancer cells. Her scan came back with finding a small cell in her lung; she had breast cancer in the right breast very aggressive type and now a spot in her left Lung she does not smoke. Now we wait and see if this is a new cancer cell or if this is metastasized from her breast cancer. Everything I have read only give a 5yr mark for life she has had no symptoms of lung cancer and this was very unexpected to find. Does anyone have and information on this type of cancer?

Cancer cures are measured as five years. A late relapse can occur.
2 :
Does she did biopsy yet?? may be just node?? she can follow up with PET few month later see if they grow, if not sure??? or if is Cancer cell confirmed need to treat it ASAP for better hope.

when i found out i had breast cancer i under went pet scans, ct scans, mri's, lung xrays, bone scans, the whole nine yards before any chemo was given. they did find 3 spots on my right lung and 2 on my left lung. then a biopsy was ordered to see if these spots were cancerous. fortunately it was just scar tissue from some type of infection. my cancer was found in my right breast also and very aggressive in the 3rd stage. chemo was given first and then surgery with reconstructive surgery (tram) and then radiation. Now I'm on tamoxifen for the next five years. They have my cancer in control and its not spreading. hopefully its just scar tissue that your mother in law is dealing with. my mother also had spots on her lungs but doesn't have any cancer, just scar tissue. Good luck, give her all the support you can she will need it and will appreciate all your help.

Cigarette smoking is the most significant cause of lung cancer. Research as far back as the 1950s clearly established this relationship. Even passive smoking, or sidestream smoke, presents another risk for lung cancer. A person living with a smoker has twice the risk of lung cancer of someone not regularly exposed to smoke. Air pollution from motor vehicles, factories, and other sources may increase the risk for lung cancer, but the degree of increase has not been established accurately. Asbestos exposure increases the risk of lung cancer by 9 times. A combination of asbestos exposure and cigarette smoking compounds the risk by as much as 50 times. Lung diseases, such as tuberculosis (TB) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), also create a risk for lung cancer. A person with COPD has a 4-6 times greater risk of lung cancer even when the effect of cigarette smoking is excluded. I added the link where I received the information in case you would like read up more on this issue.
2 :
second hand smoke is worse than smoking yourself but i doubt you got cancer from it unless your around it all your life and you still have a chance of not getting it
3 :
I guess its been proven that you can get it from second hand smoke. If you think you might have it check this out- http://564l.com/Lung_cancer_symptoms.html

Yes there is a possibility. http://cancer-treatment-education.blogspot.com/

lung cancer?

why dont you call a doctor and ask ?
2 :
I am not sure how that would relate to sodium but when ammonia levels in the blood increase it CAN cause some dillusions so maybe check that.
3 :
You say that there are no drastic blood test abnormalities, but also say up front his sodium is low. If his sodium is low enough (120s for instance), this is enough to cause mental status changes due to the fluid shifts caused by low sodium (brain cells are hypertonic compared to the bloodstream and water moves into the cells to compensate). This is a common problem for people with certain types of lung cancer, and it can be treated. Other causes for mental status changes include high calcium, brain involvement by cancer, infection. God bless, best wishes

lung cancer???

Get on the internet and look up lung problems!
2 :
I seriously doubt you have lung cancer. But if this has continued for 3 months----you definitely need to go back to your doctor.
3 :
no professional here but it sounds like you either have allergies or early signs of asthma. Lung cancer is not like this from what I understand. Also- there is a possibility along with allergies, you may have anxiety- you may actually have 2 contributing factors going at the same time
4 :
It's very rare for a 21 year old to have lung cancer, not impossible but rare. So, I would suspect your doctor has placed that possibility on the back burner. It does sound like an allergy or asthma though too. You definitely need to return to the doctor for a thorough clinical examination. Explain to him what is going on. He may order a CT of the chest to get a better image which can than be used in the future for a baseline comparison. Be persistent in looking for a diagnosis. As mentioned before there are other 'differentials' that a doctor will 'rule out' before suspecting cancer. And, age is always a factor. Young 21 year olds do not generally get lung cancer, unless it is a secondary cancer from metastisis. There are certain types of cancer that generally are age specific . . young adults usually get specific types of leukemia, lymphoma, bladder, breast, sarcoma, germ cell tumors, ovarian, testicular, thyroid, and brain tumors: http://www.vicc.org/cancers/type-ya/ The doctor may suggest going to a specialist such as a gastroentrologist to investigate this further. Best to you.

no i do not know any one who had lung cancer to get peace with it try reading a bible ask god for guides and keep praying for your aunt and i will pray for her be there for her
2 :
I have been there with my father, unfortunally he did not survive, but they have come a long way since then. In the last few years, several advances have significantly improved treatment success rates. As a result, more people than ever before can expect to survive lung cancer today. Love & prayers.God Bless.

No there isn't...I'm sorry about your dog but you shouldn't let her suffer. My dog had brain cancer and I had to put her to sleep...I think that would be the best option. You don't want her to suffer, do you?

Why do so many people seem to think lung cancer is the only risk of smoking

Why do so many people seem to think lung cancer is the only risk of smoking?
A lot of smokers seem to think that as long as they don't have lung cancer, they are beating their smoking habit. To me, that's like 20th on the list of reasons why I wouldn't smoke. Anyone ever notice this?
Cancer - 6 Answers

1 :
My mother is this way. She's smoked since she was 13years old and now she's 54, I think it's a way of denial. Trying to give a reason to not quit smoking when really they should.
2 :
People who smoke have a very high addiction to the cigarettes and are in denial to the grave benefits to their health. I hope you are not thinking of starting to smoke. You will regret it and be a slave to the nicotine for a long, long time.
3 :
Because generally speaking, it is. And some people are weaker than others and they won't know it until you see them die off. But I know of an old gent in a retirement home (finally got him off the farm) who is still smoking at 98.(He used to insulate houses with asbestos.) His buddies were all smokers too and the longest they lasted was mid70's This old guy has just got good genes and smoking did not bother him. And still has a sharp mind. Us younger folks are more frail and fragile.
4 :
I want you to notice this then decide your self, you can keep smoking if you still think what you wrote. According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer continues to be the biggest cancer killer of both men and women in the United States, with over 80% of cases attributable to cigarette smoking. Lung cancer causes 1 out of every 3 cancer deaths in men (31%), and about 1 in 4 cancer deaths among women (27%). Risk factors for lung cancer depend on several things: * the age when smoking began * how long you smoked * the amount you smoked * how deeply you inhaled If you are a former smoker, the chances you'll contract lung cancer may be higher than that of someone who has never smoked, but by quitting, you've done the best thing possible to improve your odds. Statistics tell us that the risk of developing lung cancer for current smokers is 10% to 15%. As a former smoker, your risk drops more with every smoke free year you complete. Take a look at After the Last Cigarette to get a view into how your body begins to heal when you quit smoking. While none of us can know what the future will bring, it's important not to let worry destroy the quality of life we have today. If you've recently quit smoking and you're concerned about what the years of smoking have done to your lungs, consider this: by quitting, you've lowered your risk of getting a wide variety of smoking-related illnesses, including lung cancer. With every smoke free day you complete, you're helping your body to recover and halt further damage. For many people, smoke free days turn into years of robust health and improved longevity.
5 :
Yup. My husband's Aunt is this way. She had a Brain Tumor, but her lungs are as black as coal. The doctor actually told her that her Brain looks better than her Lungs on a Good Day. She was forced to quit while spending a week in the hospital, while they tried to clear out her lungs. But she still smokes 4 packs a day. Know what she told us? "Just throw my ciggarettes into my Coffin with me, because were I am going, I won't need any matches." Pretty sick, huh?
6 :
I'm not sure they actually believe that. If someone smokes, they obviously know the risks they're taking. I think that since lung cancer is the first thing to pop into a person's mind when they think about the long-term effects of smoking, they believe that as long as they don't have lung cancer, they are fine. Since it is most common to hear about and well known, smokers might only worry about it and ignore their other, greater risks. check out this video on youtube.com, it includes some other long term effects of smoking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuh2w2sFRMI

What body parts or organs does lung cancer affect

What body parts or organs does lung cancer affect?
what other parts besides the lungs does lung cancer affect and what happens, how does it affect it?

Lymphoma can present anywhere, normal lymphocytes - blood cells that provide immune defense - are found. N - lymph nodes H - liver (hepatic) L - lung (not shown) B - bone marrow S - spleen P - pleura (lung lining - not shown) O - bone D - skin M - mucos at linings- nose, stomach, eyes, etc Lymphoma is not one cancer, but a name for a group of related cancers that arise when a Lymphocyte (an immune cell) becomes malignant. When a lymphocyte becomes malignant it's biologic behaviour is arrested at its stage of development. Lymphomas cells may grown too fast or fail to die, and accumulate to form tumours in the body, most commonly in the lymphatic system - the network of lymph nodes and channels that filter blood Picture courtesy Patients against Lymphoma As Lymphoma is caused by cancerous lymphocytes it generally effects body regions where these cells are found The lymphatic system protects our body from infection Lymph vessels are thin tubes that branch into all parts of the body. They carry fluid derived from a body region back to small bean shaped structures called lymph nodes Lymph nodes function like an army barracks, when an enemy is detected the troops (lymphocytes) are rallied and sent forth to find and destroy the foe Besides lymph nodes and lymph vessels a number of other organs have a large population of lymphocytes Thus the body region effected by lymphoma is not as easy to visualise as when someone is told they have brain or bowel cancer
2 :
esophagus
3 :
it effects your oxygen level in your blood so that efftes alot
4 :
Your bonchi, avioli and ur lungs.
5 :
your whole body. since it affects your lungs, your blood flow will be affected. every time your heart beats it sends blood holding carbon dioxide to your lungs which will exchange the carbon dioxide (exhaling) for oxygen (inhaling). lung cancer could affect your breathing process, so you may not get enough oxygen in your blood, so you might have "dirty blood" (dirty blood being blood still holding carbon dioxide)
6 :
well, my mom has stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer that has metasticized to her bones & lymph nodes. It's affecting her breathing because the tumor in her left lung was pressing on her airway & collapsed her right lung. It's causing HORRIBLE pain from the waist down because of the cancer in her bones. She's also in pain because she has HUGE tumors all over her spine.
