It could take years, or it could take months.
2 :
Depends on many factors, how aggressive the cancer is, what treatments are available, the general health before the cancer struck, age even the sex of the patient. But it can be from a month or two to a year or more.

What happens when you have lung cancer

What happens when you have lung cancer?
What happens to your body when you have lung cancer? What happens to your lungs? Please RSVP, ASAP. Thanks! Tim Yes, it may spread. How will it affect the lungs, though?

it could spread

My late-husband had stage 4 non small cell lung cancer. The tumor in his lung was very small and did not affect him. However, depending on where the tumor is it can make it hard to breath. The cancer had already metasticized to his brain before it was discovered. The affects to your body depend on the success of the treatments.

Which has a higher risk of giving someone lung cancer Marijuana use or Tobacco use

Which has a higher risk of giving someone lung cancer Marijuana use or Tobacco use?
Which has a higher risk of giving someone lung cancer Marijuana use or Tobacco use? Im just wondering about cancer risks not whether it should be legalized or not.

Both have the same cancer risks.
2 :
Tobacco, by far.
3 :
Since the volume of tobacco smoke taken by a habitual user is higher than that of the smoke of a habitual marijuana user then I would say tobacco. But cancer alone is not a reason for legalization. Heroine and LSD are very safe in terms of a cancer threat. That is not a reason to legalise them. The socio-economic affects take precedent.
4 :
i would have to say tobacco because i know that they give cancer patience medical marijuanna
5 :
Tobacco since it also has so many other chemicals in it. Marijuana smoking can cause emphysema because you breath it in deeper and hold it longer, also because the smoke coming from the joint can be hot which also damages your throat and lungs. They sell devices called pot vapourizers that burns off all the harmful chemicals and gives you a fresh blast of THC, but they cost close to $1000.
6 :
Most people "Spin" marijuana with tobacco when it is smoked. So any cancer risk that marijuana carries is normally accompanied by any cancer risk that tobacco carries.
7 :
tobacco...
8 :
marijuana has no cancer risks because there are no poisons, toxin, and tar in it like there are in cigarettes. anybody that tells you othewise is an idiot.
9 :
There is no scientific evidence of Marijuana being linked to cancer. However it does damage the lungs when you smoke it from the heat and hold it in for a long time. Alternatives to this, and if you are still worried about getting cancer, would be to inhale as if you were meditating. Very deep breath, and slowly let it out.

At such an early stage, her chances for recovery are good if its non small cell. If the cancer hasn't spread then surgery would be a very good option. After successful surgery, chemo should be considered in case some cancer cells are in the blood stream.
2 :
If they just caught it (which that's what it sounds like), chances are good. At the same time, they will be keeping an eye (monitoring) on her for the rest of her life.

u cood , like use cotton balls and then put food die on it. as the cotton absorbs the food die , it could represent the cancer spreading
2 :
Start with an image like this http://z.about.com/f/p/440/graphics/images/en/18013.jpg and draw arrows to the brain, liver, adrenal glands, and bones (perhaps the ribs, spine, pelvis, humerus and femur - that's where I've seen lung cancers spread most often to bone.) I don't know what grade you are in or how much anatomy you know. I think I would do this on poster board rather than styrofoam unless you want to cut out organ shapes and glue them to poster board. A drawing/painting would be easier. Good Luck! Added note Here's another image more like what I'm suggesting. http://www.uptodate.com/patients/content/images/onco_pix/Lung_CA_IV.jpg I forgot to mention lymph nodes which are also sites for metastatic disease - usually in the mediastinum or the supraclaviclur areas. Wish I was there to help you. You may need to brush up on anatomy to know what I'm talking about. But this picture should help you.

Hi, I am kind of a scientist. The best is to go to the internet page where one can find the clinical trials that have been done regarding this type of cancer. Here I send you the link: http://www.cancer.gov/Templates/doc.aspx?viewid=7C5CCBC9-ADAD-4683-8448-E705FB912971&ReqUrl=%2Fclinicaltrials%2Fsearch There you can search according the type. Then you can talk with people that conduct the trial if is possible to include your aunt there. Iressa in from Astra Zeneca, I have read that is very effectively used in Asia, and that genetic factors are important to predict its benefit. Can you phone to Astra Zeneca in your country and tell them about the situation?.Besides, I suggest you to consult as many doctors as you can to find the available drug that will have more chances to help her. I sincerely hope that you can find a solution in time.
2 :
In some folks, Iressa, or gefitinib, can be a good drug for the treatment of metastatic lung cancer. Asians, women, and non-smokers, and adenocarcinoma with bronchioalveolar features in their cancers are the ones who will respond to it. In the U.S., Iressa is not approved for lung cancer patients unless you have already been on it or are getting it through a clinical trial. The one way you might be able to get it, would be to contact Astra Zeneca. Pharmaceutical companies usually have avenues to allow people to obtain drugs cheaply if they meet certain criteria.

How much do you know about cancer? We are all born with cancer cells in our body. Because they are inherently defective cells, most die off soon after we are born. Others are killed by your immune system and still others go on to group together and form a blood barrier from the rest of the body. A person is said to have cancer when this barrier is formed. This is the battleground where the war is waged. Once detected the immune system goes on alert and attacks the cancer cluster. Cancer cells can not kill healthy immune cells so their only defense is to replicate as fast as they can in an attempt to overcome the fighter cells of the immune system. This war will be won only if your immune system is strong. Otherwise they will be overcome and the cancer will win and continue to spread. If you think you have cancer, if you think you may develop cancer, or if you think that your past lifestyle may come back to haunt you one day...you should start shoring up your immune system. Watch my video, it will give you more information so that you can make more informed choices about your treatment. I hope you are better soon.
2 :
Cancers go in stages .First its Primary .Then it goes to secondary. From there it terminal. But they can do a lot for you before it gets terminal.
3 :
Anytime cancer spreads from one area to the other (metastasis) , its stage iv. It doesn't necessarily mean there is cancer in every place between lung and kidney, but may be some cancer cells between the two organs.

Does habitual smoking cause other cancer besides lung cancer

Does habitual smoking cause other cancer besides lung cancer?
Both my parents were long term smokers who died of cancer (neck and stomach), but not lung cancer. Could smoking have caused their cancer?

Yes, smoking is also a risk factor for cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, neck, stomach and pancreas, as well as for heart disease and emphysema.
2 :
Yes, mainly oral, nasal, and throat cancers. Almost all primary oral cancers are related to either smoker or using dip/chew. Smokers are at slightly higher rates for many other cancers as well. But the ones mentioned above they are at considerably higher rates for.
3 :
In addition to Amaretta and Iceman's list, I would like to add that almost all bladder cancer is caused by smoking. My grandmother died of it.
4 :
Yes, defiantly. Smoking can cause cancer in every part of the body, not just the lungs. That is why smoking is so bad for you. There are millions of other illnesses that smoking can cause too. It is 99% likely that your parents cancer came from their long term smoking.
5 :
Smoking can increase the risk of cancers of the mouth, nose and sinuse, larynx, oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, bladder, liver, cervix and kidney, and of myeloid leukaemia. It is not true that smoking can cause cancer anywhere in the body, and it is certainly not true to saym, as someone has, that it's 99% sure your parents' cancers were due to smoking. Only 20% of stomach cancers are thought to be caused by smoking. A third of bladder cancers in women and two thirds in men are caused by smoking; 20% of pancreatic cancers are thought to be linked to smoking.
