is it possible to have serious lung disease or cancer and still be able to do rigorous cardio

is it possible to have serious lung disease or cancer and still be able to do rigorous cardio?
I have been having a stinging feeling in the right lung area, i do smoke about five cigarettes a day and i used to smoke alot of marijuana. I say to myself that nothing could really be wrong if i can withstand a four mile run, and half a mile swim, plus stationary bycyle almost daily. I had a chest xray last year which showed no disease. Would i have this kind of cardiovascular endurance and still have lung cancer or lung disease caused by smoking?

Depends what stage the lung cancer-in the very beginning, the early stages yes you could. Since for any tumor, cyst etc to be picked up on a X-Ray has to be a certain size why not spend some money and get a PetScan which is a test to find cancer anywhere in the body and it too has to be a certain size to be detected but much, much smaller than required by a X-Ray.Has to be ordered by your Physician , usually done as outpatient in a hospital , is relatively painfree. and covered by most Insurance Plans-why must be ordered by your Doctor. If you are really concerned about having cancer-concern that is more than usual and giving you quite a bit of stress-affecting sleep, appetite and so forth than more than likely will be recommended treatment by your doctor. It is the most certain test to date to find or not find cancer. It certainly relieved me several years back-Nice to hear that no evidence of cancer found anywhere.

The amount or type of exercise you do won't protect you from lung disease if you continue to expose your lungs to cigarettes. Did you really think it would? There's still debate about the cardiopulmonary effects of pot but anything that doesn't belong in the lungs is a potential problem, right? This may be nothing at all but see your doctor about it. As to your orginal question, it is possible to do rigorous cardio and still have the early stages of a serious condition.
3 :
Well, irregardless of whether you have cancer or not . . only your doctor can determine that . . the answer is that yes a person can have very advanced cancer and still be physically active. Young and very healthy people can endure and even mask the signs of cancer. Often they will dismiss the aches and pains and continue with their sport until the cancer is quite advanced and can no longer be ignored. I know that this is true because it happened to my 17 year old son. He was playing high school basketball right up until a few weeks before being diagnosed with stage IV abdominal sarcoma. So, yes it is possible for a young, healthy, active person to have advanced cancer, be asymptomatic, and not know.

What systems are effected when you get lung cancer

What systems are effected when you get lung cancer?
ASAP What else can happen when you get lung cancer?

the entire body is affected in one way or another. this is something you need to ask your doctor.
2 :
Every system. If you get cancer, not only is the cancer bad, the treatment is just as bad. Plus death...
3 :
lung cancer can severely inhibit your breathing if the tumor is large. my mom's progressed to the point where she had to be put on an oxygen machine because breathing was hard for her. there are two types of lung cancer: small cell and non-small cell. small cell is the faster growing of the two, yet seems to have a higher percentage of cure rate. non-small cell grows slower but can be more resistant to treatment. anyone who gets lung cancer needs to get a full body check to make sure it hasn't spread. it has a tendency to spread to other organs very quickly (especially the brain) therefore treatment will most likely include chemotherapy. sometimes even if the cancer has not spread to the brain they will do preemptive treatment of radiation of the brain to try to stop it from spreading there. to give more information about lung cancer to you i'd need to know the specific type of lung cancer, stage and size of tumor, and if the cancer has spread anywhere else...but I hope I helped you out a little bit.

how to write a research paper about lung cancer

how to write a research paper about lung cancer?
i don't know where to start. where do i go to get information about lung cancer? what is a good website to find scholarly journal articles? what would be a good topic to talk about of this subject? what does a research paper include?

Its a huge topic, so I think you have to break it down into sections. What is lung cancer? What are the different types? Who gets the different types? What are the causes of the various types? What is the treatment and the survival rate? Are there controversies with lung cancer-eg what is the risk of passive smoking? For one paper that's a lot to cover, so I think I would concentrate on the different types of lung cancer, and how some of these are linked to smoking and others may not be. For more general papers, search for reviews and that will give you an overview of the subject.

A good friend found out her mother has stage 3 lung cancer-How do I help her deal with this

A good friend found out her mother has stage 3 lung cancer-How do I help her deal with this ?
I want to be there as a friend to help her get through this and I also want to be there to see if there is something that we can do for her Mom-they opened her up yesterday and then told them she has stage 3 lung cancer and they couldn't remove anything. What is her Mother's chances-and what should we be doing to get her to the right doctors?

My dad had Stage IV and lived for a year after diagnosis. Depending on the age of your friend, I would have her get involved, get on message boards and forums for caregivers of people with lung cancer. That will give her a feeling that she is doing something productive and helpful. Plus, she can keep her mom's spirirts up too, as there will be many postings of longer -than-expected survival times, etc. And of course, just listen to your friend. The initial dignosis time is very very painful for everyone. It will get a little easier to talk about as time goes on. You are a good friend!
2 :
The first thing you should do is suggest they get a second opinion, and maybe a third opinion. Different doctors often say different things. Encourage your friend's family to go to the best hospital in the area. Beyond that, the most important thing is to listen to your friend and give her emotional support. But it's also important to remember that this will be a difficult and confusing time for her family, and if you try too hard to be there for them, you may just end up burdening them. For example, when your friend wants to talk about it, talk about it with her -- but don't bring it up when she doesn't want to talk about it. Don't try to give her too many ideas on what she can do for her mother, because it may just get really confusing. Just give her encouragement. And unless it's quite obvious that her mother won't make it through this, don't talk as if her mother is going to die (for example, don't say "Your mom has meant so much to everyone," etc.) Just say "I know your mom is strong and will do everything she can to fight this, and I know she has a great family who will support her battle."
3 :
Your friends got a hard time and you should be a shoulder to cry on person. There is a lot of story about survival cancer lately. Don't let your friends and his mother lost hope to keep trying and your role as a motivator is much appreciated. There is a lot of secondary medical method can be applied. Try search in the internet for the best remedy around the world. Keep supporting each other. And you could get more info and tips from the source i was read before.

Hi, I am not an expert on this but I would like to share with you the gift of healing and health, and please allow the testimonies of those who were freed from this kind of disease answer some of your questions: http://sites.google.com/site/healingtrufirstvitaplus/home

Look into the Hallelujah Acres Diet!!! It's a vegan diet. My mom and I are both vegans to try to stay away from cancer. This diet HAS cured people of cancers, tumors, etc. I highly recommend you look in to it and tell her about it! But, I will tell you, some people have discovered this diet to late.... if you are going to say something to her, say it ASAP!!! Website: www.hacres.com

My father had cancer, and I shall tell you something now... it will not be easy for your friend. To see a loved one who has always been a strong person go through such a degrading illness is painful. You have already proved yourself as a wonderful person and a true friend by seeking advise off others to improve your friend and her mothers situation! With my father, we made sure that we got a second opinion, he had bowel cancer, the doctors said that he could have the tumor removed and then start on chemotherapy, but the cancer only got worse. We went to several doctors, but they all came out with the same answer, and in the end all we could do is make sure that he was as comfortable as possible, until his last day. I am not for one second saying that your friends mother shall have the same outcome as my dads there have been many people who have survived cancer, but the only thing you can all do is be strong, seek a second opinion (to give you piece of mind) and remain positive! I hope I have helped you in some way...? Love and light charlotte xxx

How long does it take to get to stage IV lung cancer

How long does it take to get to stage IV lung cancer?
If I were diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer, how long have I had lung cancer?

no one can tell you that...it's as varied as people who get cancer...
2 :
It depends on the type of lung cancer. Some are aggressive and fast growing (such as small cell) and some less and may linger (such as Broncho-alveolar carcinoma type). In reality, no one can tell.

Does playing the saxophone increase risk of lung cancer

Does playing the saxophone increase risk of lung cancer?
Is there any truth in this? That playing wind instruments increases your chances of developing lung cancer?

IOnly if you smoke while you play. I never heard of such a thing.
2 :
I've never heard of anything like that. If anything it should help you control your breathing.
3 :
No. Smoking does and second hand smoke will give you lung cancer. Playing a wind instrument is like breathing, except you control your breath.
4 :
Yes, if you play too much jazz....... all that pot smoking that goes with it :P
5 :
What a silly, silly question. If anything playing an instrument, singing or dancing will increase your lung capacity. Sounds like someone does not want to spring for a musical instrument. Not only does playing an instrument increase your lung capacity but research has shown that playing music increases language skills and more recently research from Duke University has shown it to help keep mood levels consistent.
6 :
No, in fact it will increase your lung capacity. A person has to learn to breath right to get the right flow.
7 :
Quite the oppositte actually! Because all wind instrument players develop healthy lung capacities to play in the first place they will have less chance of developing lung cancer and will actually live longer. Saxophone players in particular are amongst the musicians who live the longest! (of course the more 2nd hand smoke they are around, the less the advantage... damn smokers!)

are you more likely to get lung cancer from smoking tobacco or smoking marijuana

are you more likely to get lung cancer from smoking tobacco or smoking marijuana?
my dad said smoking one joint is like smoking 26 cigarettes, I highly doubt that. I think more people die from lung cancer due to tobacco not cannabis.sooo whats true?
Cancer - 7 Answers

1 :
I expect that's a true statement, but most likely because one isn't apt to smoke two packs of marijuana per day.
2 :
tobacco. i dont advise neither though.
3 :
Tobacco wins on this one
4 :
Your dad is just saying that so you wont smoke it. Cigarettes are WAY more dangerous than marijuana. There are over 700 chemicals in cigarettes while in marijuana theres only 400.
5 :
No person that only smokes marijuana has ever gotten lung cancer. The worst it can do is irritate your lungs a little. If you use a vaporizer there is virtually no damage. I smoke quite often and I would say that you are missing out. Also, I cannot stress this anymore better, if you want real information about the effects of marijuana, then look up studies done by professionals and not the opinions of people that have never even seen the stuff.
6 :
No one has ever died from marijuana, there has never been one case of marijuana only smokers getting lung cancer. EVER
7 :
"The largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer...." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729.html

After you quit smoking, does your risk of getting lung cancer decrease

After you quit smoking, does your risk of getting lung cancer decrease?
I recently quit smoking. I hadn't smoked for long, just a few months. Does the risk of getting lung cancer decrease after you quit smoking?
Cancer - 9 Answers

1 :
maybe...
2 :
Yes.
3 :
The single best way to prevent lung cancer is not to smoke. If you smoke, quit for good as soon as possible. Not long after you quit, your risk of lung cancer begins to drop. After 10 years of not smoking, the risk of lung cancer is about 50% lower compared to continued smokers and continues to decrease with time.
4 :
Yes, it does. The longer you go without smoking after quiting, the more your risk declines. In your case, since you didn't smoke long, your risk will be reduced dramatically if you don't start smoking again. Your overall lung function improves within just a few days of quitting as well.
5 :
Yes, it does, and good job on quitting! Within 5 years of quitting the lung cancer death rate (for average 1 pack/day former smoker) decreases by nearly 50%
6 :
Yes it gradually decreases. Keep at it.
7 :
Definately. It will lessen the risk of you getting lung cancer. Any other cancer and like the rest of us you take your chance.
8 :
If you have only smoked for a few months,I woundnt spend much time worrying about it.
9 :
My understanding is that your risk goes down but it doesn't go away. You are helping yourself though. Keep it up.
