What are my chances of surviving lung cancer with treatment

What are my chances of surviving lung cancer with treatment?
My doctor found a spot called a pulmonary nodule on my lung that may or may not be cancerous. Im worried that it is. What are my chances of surviving lung cancer? I am 19 years old and have been smoking for 5 years. I know emphazema runs in my family but im not too sure about lung cancer. Can someone please help me?

Now you need help. Why would you start smoking at 14? It was your choice and now its your fault. Edit: @Eden Being fat isnt illegal. Smoking underage is their choice. That's why there are laws. Eating is a part of life, something you need. Being fat may or may not be a persons fault depending on the circumstances. But Smoking was her choice. She went against the law and now shes gonna pay for it. I do feel some sort of sympathy for her but at the same time i feel she was being irresponsible.

Our body, just like the universe, has a pattern which evolves through time. Therefore by including the concept of "time" into the diagnosis, we can predict the pattern of our body, like the way we can predict the patterns in the universe. I am a Licensed Acupuncturist who practices what I call "Time Medicine". For years, I perform my diagnosis by using your gender, birth date, time of birth, and city and country of birth. I am able to immediately see the pattern, such as the physical appearance, the preference of food, the personality, and most importantly, accurately predict the time of event, and the type of disorder this person has. By understanding the constitution, I am able give my clients awareness as to how to prevent many ailments that may occur in their own pattern. So did I answer your question? Send a reply with the information of your gender, birthdate, time of birth, and city and country of birth. Look forward to conversing with you.

Answer4Nerdz --> you're horrible, who says that?? Why don't you go tell a really fat person that it's their fault for having a heart attack because they eat too much? Anyway.....back to the question. That's really scary, I can't believe that. What stage lung cancer is it? It really depends. It's easy to google this stuff and find answers to your question, depending on the stage you're in. I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing this because it's quite depressing. Good luck to you I hope everything works out!

I work in the radiation oncology department at my hosptial. The bad new is that lung cancer is very difficult to treat- some cancers we can do a lot about, but lung cancer isn't one of them. Obviously, I don't know much about your case, but your doctor/specialist should be able to tell you more.
5 :
Most pulmonary nodules are benign, meaning it isn't cancerous. However there is a chance it could be malignant. I suppose the good news (other than it moree liekly being benign) is that it has been found early. Lung cancer is hard to treat radically (intent to cure), however it can be done. Being young, you are a good candidate for surgery to remove it if it is in a good position. You would also be fit enough to have chemotherapy, so if it is malignant it can be treated. But don't worry yourself about it, don't keep thinking on how it could be cancerous. And I suggest quitting smoking, but it is a personal choice.

How long does it take lung cancer to form

How long does it take lung cancer to form?
My 37 year old sister has two masses of incurable cancer on each lung. It is inoperable. I am just curious. How long did she have it. 1 year, 2 years? I just wonder how long she was walking around with cancer not even knowing it. Thank for any help. She is to young to die.

I believe 5-10 years would be a reasonable guess.
2 :
This is really impossible to know without knowing more about your sister's individual condition. There are several types of lung cancer, and some are faster than others - small cell carcinoma can develop quite quickly. I'm sorry about your sister's diagnosis. Has transplantation been considered?
3 :
lung cancer has an 11% surival rate, so she most likely will die. Sorry
4 :
Its hard to say.I can start out microscopic and by the time it is detected, usually years have passed.

How difficult is traveling with lung cancer and emphazema

How difficult is traveling with lung cancer and emphazema?
My grandmother was diagnosed with the early stage of lung cancer and enphazema (shocker: she's a smoker). She is due to have surgery to remove part of one of her lobes next week. My question is, I am planning my wedding (I live in California and she lives in Texas) and need to know if she can travel by airplane? I'm afraid that the recirculated air will be bad for her health. If traveling is going to be a problem for her, I will gladly have my wedding in Texas. Any ideas?

My aunt had lung cancer and could not travel long distance. It just depends on how strong your grandmother is and if she feel up to it.

First, let me say I am very sorry to hear about this, and I wish you and your grandmother the best. I'll answer your question from a strictly medical standpoint, based on what small cell carcinoma of the lung is, and what it does, what to expect, etc. Cancer of the lungs can come in several forms, to name a few adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and the one you are dealing with now, small cell carcinoma. The distinctions between the cancers are made to differentiate the cell types in the lungs which are involved, the progression the disease will likely take, and the treatment and prognosis of the disease. At the risk of sounding dramatic, and I don't mean at all to worry or frighten you, small cell cancers are the least favorable cancers to have. In fact, the distinction is usually only made whether a lung tumor is a small cell tumor or a non-small cell tumor because the treatment is so different. Small cell tumors are almost exclusively linked to smoking (yet one more reason for people not to smoke), and even people who have only smoked a few years have a much increased risk of developing these tumors over their entire lives, not just during the time they smoke. Small cell tumors are not favorable because they are very aggressive. They spread quickly and aggressively. At the time they are diagnosed, roughly 80-90% of small cell cancers of the lungs have already spread (metasticized) to other parts of the body. If you know anything about cancers, this is always a bad sign. The treatment for any form of lung cancer other than small cell is usually surgical removal of the tumor, followed by chemotherapy. In the case of a small cell cancer, surgery is almost never an option. Since the tumors have almost always spread at the time of diagnosis, removing a lung or part of a lung will have no benefit at all. Do not be surprised if the CT scan or MRI of the brain already shows cancer there. As far as time, because of the nature of these tumors, small cell cancers grow quickly. Cancers are usually reported in 5-year survival rates, a statistic that shows how many people with cancer are still alive five years after they are diagnosed. Small cell lung tumors have a very low survival rate at 5 years, I can't remember exactly off hand, but I believe it's somewhere around the 5-10% mark. The tumor has potential to be fatal within 6 weeks to 9 months of diagnosis. Your grandmother's age may also be a factor in treatment, since her age may not allow her to tolerate chemotherapy easily. That said, chemotherapy is the treatment for this disease, and in some people, can definitely help. Stay with her and give her whatever support you can offer. Your family may want to look into some kind of hospice program should her disease worsen. I wish you the best of luck during this difficult time.
2 :
It can spread to the brain. It can spread anywhere, actually. It is best to talk to her doctor and find out what is going on in her specific case. Even though most cancers follow a relatively predictable path, each individual is different. If your grandmother has a strong immune system, she may be able to fight it off longer than if she has been weakened by other illnesses. You can do a Google search on small cell lung cancer and get a lot of information. But to get information specifically about your grandmother's case, talk to her doctor.
3 :
Lung cancer frequently metastisizes (spreads) to the brain. It will already be there if she was diagnosed late (versus early). It will be the same kind of cancer, and is usually a very aggressive tumor. Spend as much time with her as you can.
4 :
I recommend Dr. Hulda Clark's book about cancers. You can look at them on amazon. She's excellent. "The Cure for Advanced Cancers", "The Cure for All Cancers", "The PRevention for Cancers." She offers some 3 week herbal therapy that you can do at home. It's worth trying!
5 :
Cancer can spread anywhere. My mother had uterine cancer that spread to her brain and took her life 7 months later.
6 :
aftermath of breast ca..usually is bone ca..now lung ca, usually the aftermath is brain ca but yes, any cancer can metastasize in any organs, i guess its just more common for these type of cancer to spread in these specific organs
7 :
My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer March 20th. He went thru radiation, chemo, and gamma knife procedure for brain tumor(ask your doc about that) and took a drug called tarceva. He passed June 6th. It is a very aggressive cancer. Good luck to you.
8 :
My mom found out she was in the final stages of lung cancer, then died within 2 weeks. She had just turned 63. I don't know if it spread.
9 :
Cancer can spread sometimes very quick. I have known numerous cancer patients with lung cancer that it had spread to the brain. There is really no right answer on how fast this can happen. Depends on the individual.

Don't smoke. It's the first rule. Check with your Doctor to see if you are in a high risk category.
2 :
Many cancers run in the families and the immediate relatives (siblings, parents, and children) of patients with cancers often have an increased risk of cancers. But if you don't smoke, watch your diet and exercise regularly then you're as clean as a whistle. But first, go and see a doctor
3 :
Call your doctor immediately, and tell at least the nurse if not the doctor your immediate fears...give them the history. Perhaps the doctor's office will refer you to immediate tests. Yes cancer does seem to run in families....you can protect yourself by having whatever tests the doctor says are needed. Best of luck, and please be a non-smoker, and don't stay around second-hand smoke - even in restaurants...It kills!
4 :
My mother died of lung cancer and i have searched back through her family and no one else has had any type of cancer. i wouldn't write a death sentence. you could live ur whole life and never get cancer. I always heard stress causes cancer so less worring might help.

There is good news and bad news. The Good News: Many times the traits for something like cancer will skip a generation. The Bad News: The Good News is not guaranteed. This is still a good indicator for you to see a doctor and get regular chest XRays. Remember, lung cancer is very serious, but, as with any cancer, the sooner it is detected the better your chance of recovery. A friend of mine had lung cancer discovered in the very early staged because he was having a CAT Scan of his heart. He lost 1/3 of his left lung and has been cancer free for the last 4 years. He make it clear to all his friends that his was caught at the very earliest stages, before it spread to others areas.

sorry to hear about your friend but no one can tell how long it could be but the doctors and they are usually right make sure she doesnt get sick it will speed the prosses up
2 :
even very healthy people die every minutes due to various reasons. Therefore, not only your friend, but any one, who has important thinks like seeing son marry, should not be put off for tomorrow. hope this helps
3 :
certainly your friend is in a very bad way. i tell you that some days a doctor may think this person will live for 2 weeks. the next day it is different again and is now months. your friend will live as long as she God so wills.
4 :
Speaking from experience as a nurse and dealing with some of these same issues most patients with cancer that have progressed that far have a very short life span, usually in weeks and sometimes just a few months. No cancer patient is the same though, other factors contribute to the longevity of life. So sorry to hear about your friend, god bless both of u.
5 :
If you are a saved and born again Christan you have the power to heal her with your hands, in the mighty name of Jesus cast out the cancer and demand that the devil leave her body. Tell her to refuse it, tell her to start meditating on healthy cells and getting rid of cancer. We had a woman give testimony at our church and she beat cancer twice and it was well in to the bad stages. She can do it. Will it away, its all in your mind. By, committing to the woe is me syndrome it stays and the free radicals take over and it spreads. She can make it to that wedding!! Trust me.
6 :
I think she will make it to see her son marry. But only God knows! Either way she will be there. I empathized with you and her family.

no i doubt u do! do u have asthsma??? umm it could just be cuz u were out in the cold but if it still hurts tomorrow afternoon then go to the dr. but i realy really doubt it is cancer!
2 :
That can be a number of things considering you were out in the cold.....you shouldn't assume you have cancer b/c of that. Its probably a chest cold......bronchitis, etc. Not every pain is cancer,,
3 :
Its most likely something else because when you have lung cancer, you would feel something inside your chest cavity, throw up blood or have severe problems with breathing (i.e. need apparatus to get enough oxygen) Could you elaborate a bit more? For example, is it a sharp pain or has it been for a long period of time and how old are you?
4 :
Don't think you should worry when you have lung cancer it hurts in your shoulder blades most likely it's from the cold air.
5 :
yes
