Is it common that lung cancer spreads to the nose or area around it?

Cancer can metastasize anywhere . . but in general cancer cells follow the blood system or lymphatic system and lodge in areas like the liver, lungs, bones, and brain. But microscopic malignant cells that spill into the blood stream/lymph node system can go all over the body including the nose .. it's not common . . but happens. NCI: Metastatic cancer http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Sites-Types/metastatic
2 :
That would not at all be a commen thing to happen, but it is possible. As the other poster said, Lung cancer typically spreads to the liver, bones and brain. Nasal cancer is ussualy a primary cancer.. meaning that's were it started.

Where can i find some stories about people with Lung Cancer

Where can i find some stories about people with Lung Cancer?
My mom has lung cancer and my way of dealing with it is to look at stories of other people who have had Lung cancer. I prefer not to read about survivors because the chance of that are so small i was to be prepared for what could happen. Also i wanted to know what it could be like if this takes a turn for the worse. So i was wondering where i could go to read other stories.

How long does it take you to die from lung cancer without help

How long does it take you to die from lung cancer without help?
Lung cancer from smoking too much when you are old.

That's an impossible question to answer because everyone is different. Some die slowly while others die quickly. My nephew died of lung cancer and suffered a long time. He smoked a lot. My sister has lung cancer and never smoked in her life. She was told she won't live long. It doesn't seem fair does it. At least she's ready and now wants to die and be done with it. I'm selfish. I don't want her to die but I don't have a say in it. She is not having chemo because her body is riddled with all kinds of cancer. So there is no telling. Only God knows the day and time.

What is the chance of getting lung cancer

What is the chance of getting lung cancer?
My dad is 45 years old and turns 46 on June 21. He has been smoking ever since he graduated from college, at age 25, turning 26. So he has been smoking for about 20 years. He quit for almost a year when we first moved to America, but he started again. So about 19 3/4 years he has been smoking. He has quit now, at age 45 and he hasn't smoked for almost a month now. What is the chance of him still getting lung cancer?

Your lungs start to heal themselves within days of quitting smoking. Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer but not the only cause. It can be hereditary, chemical pollutants and several other environmental factors. Give him a pat on the back for quitting it can only lower his risk.
2 :
It is difficult to put a number on it. It depends on how many packs a day he smoked also. I would think that if he stays not smoking, he should stand a pretty good chance of not getting cancer. (I am assmuming that he is not having any lungs problems now such as chronic cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms. The main thing is that he quit smoking. Lungs do tend to repair them self if you stop smoking. Many people will begin to taste food better. They will stop that early morning cough. That is very good news!

What does coughing blood mean with lung cancer

What does coughing blood mean with lung cancer?
When someone has been living for over 2 years with lung cancer, what does it mean when the patient starts coughing up blood? The doctor says there's nothing they can do. Tapestry6, I didn't ask about the symptoms of lung cancer. That's all you gave. Just so you know, it's not me that has cancer, but someone close to me. It is quite advanced, but somehow she keeps going on. Incredibly strong, and doesn't seem to want to give up. She sometimes improves enough to be able to go for a short walk outside, but this isn't often.

The person already has lung cancer, it would seem it is just another stage of the disease............I would check out webmd.com...........to see if I could find out anything further, or simply speak to the Dr. in private about the situation........
2 :
Coughing blood means that lung cancer was becoming worst and worst.
3 :
Symptoms of lung cancer may include: A new cough or a cough that does not go away. Smokers who have a chronic cough from smoking may have a change in how severe their cough is or how much they cough. Chest, shoulder, or back pain that does not go away and often gets worse with deep breathing. New wheezing. Shortness of breath. Hoarseness. Coughing up blood or bloody mucus. Swelling in the neck and face. Difficulty swallowing. Weight loss and loss of appetite. Increasing fatigue and weakness. Recurring respiratory infections, such as pneumonia. Clubbing of the fingers and toes. The nails appear to bulge out more than normal. Lung cancer may spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body. The most common sites are the bones, the brain, the liver, the other lung, the lining of the heart (pericardium), and the adrenal glands. When lung cancer spreads, other symptoms may also occur. Symptoms of cancer that has spread to the brain may include: Seizures. Headaches. Change in alertness. Vision changes. Nausea or vomiting.
4 :
Maybe that the lungs are deteriorating - often the blood is blood vessels rupturing with the strain of coughing xxx
5 :
unfortunately part of the illness. it may be from the ruffness of the throat and lung. remember the cancer eats the lungs away causing difficulty in catching your breath, and always feels like something in there.(tumors?)
6 :
In my case (Metastatic Kidney cancer that mestastisized to the lung) hemoptasis (sp: coughing up blood from the lungs) meant the cancer was growing near one of the bronchi and that one or more the inferior blood vessels the cancer creates for itself has failed and is bleeding into the bronchi. This can be remedied, at least temporarily, by an embolization of the bleeding vessels, or a bronchoscopy where they will use a laser to cauterize the bleeding vessels. Not an MD, just a patient.
7 :
What stage is the cancer? You need to get some b17 injections, it will help with everything, give a better appetite, shield from any pain and prolong life, even cure it. My mother in law has stage 3b (inoperable) lung cancer and has been doing radiation and chemo, but also we have been giving her b17 injections, she is doing great. Her hemoglobin's have gone up and her tumor in her lung is shrinking as is the one in her neck, that one is almost gone! I believe so much in this as I am seeing it firsthand, go to this site: apricotpower.com order the injections, you will be amazed at how well this works. Also go to youtube.com and search a world without cancer, it will give you faith that you can be cured and you will hear countless testimonials of people who have been cured. I wish you all the best my heart and prayers go out to you.

What are the chances of survival from Lung Cancer

What are the chances of survival from Lung Cancer?
My mother in law has just found out she has lung cancer and a tumor in her lung. She will be getting surgery to remove the tumor tomorrow. What are the chances of everything being okay? Will she have to take radiation or chemotherapy afterwards? I would like to get input from anyone that has gone thru this experience. She is very scared and was a smoker for 22 years. Any information is more than welcome.

it depends on what stage the cancer is in. her doctor should have told her all this already and gone over her options with her. cancer isn't just one lump thing thing the same treatment for everyone.
2 :
that stinks.......... smoking is bad
3 :
if caught in early stages, her chances are very good. otherwise, six months at best. sorry.
4 :
The sad thing about lung cancer is that it is usually caught too late in most people. If it's in stage 1 or 2, she'll have good fighting chance. Stage 3, maybe. Stage 4, eight out of 10 people don't live a year after diagnosis. I am sorry for the bleak outlook. My father died of lung cancer about 2 and a half years ago. He was stage four when he was diagnosed. Lung cancer was a reality me and my family had to live with. I am sorry to hear about your mother-in-law and I pray that she will recover!
5 :
I'm very sorry. Lung cancer has one of the lowest survival rates. That doesn't mean there's no hope, but you have to be realistic. Forecasting the Course of Disease: Lung Cancer Prognosis Overall, fewer than 10% of people with primary lung cancer are alive 5 years after diagnosis. But 5-year survival rates may be as high as 35 to 40% among patients who undergo surgical resection for cancer that has not spread beyond the lung. General estimates of stage-specific median survival times—the point at which 50% of patients are still living—are as follows: Stage 1a - more than 60 months (> 5 years) Stage 1b - about 36 months (3 years) Stage 2a - about 24 months (2 years) Stage 2b - about 20 months (< 2 years) Stage 3a - about 15 months (< 1.5 years) Stage 3b - about 12 months (1 year) Stage 4 - about 8 months (< 1 year)
6 :
If she gets treatment fast then she will go into remission it all depends on what stage the cancer is in, but hopefully now she'll put the cigarettes down
7 :
well there are 80% people get fully cured if the cancer detected in early stage. plz visit this site for more info http://cancer-symptoms-and-treatments.blogspot.com/
8 :
wow. im rly sorry to hear about that. smoking is pointless all u do is wate money on a death. but i will tell u it is very rare to live with lung cancer. she might end up living for a couple months or maybe she will still be living at the ago 80 u never know. i lost my g-pa to lung cancer thats y im saying that. but all u can do is pray and hope for the best. ill pray for u and her.

If the tumor is very small, she may have a better chance. Chemo and radiation will probably be used. Much depends on the size of tumor, my mom had a very small one diagnosed, didn't have surgery, opted for chemo/radiation instead. The doc said surgery generally spreads the cancer, as you cannot contain the cells, and they take a large portion of the lung, not just the tumor, so breathing is very difficult afterwards. Anyway, my mom survived for five years following that diagnosis. She was declared cancer free in Nov 06. July 07, a tumor was found, this time she was given one month to live, she survived 27days, this tumor was much larger and very aggressive. My mom was a very heavy smoker for 60plus years.

the tumor will be removed safely. yes, she will have to undergo either or both radiation/chemo. treatments. there ARE no "positively" safe/accurate asnwers for this. each individual/ case is different. my ex husband had both a brain and a lung tumor. he was treated in louisville for this. I wish her all the best / tell her to think positive, i did. Barb

Where can I find good lung cancer hospice care

Where can I find good lung cancer hospice care?
I'm looking for information about hospice care for terminal lung cancer patients. I'd like to know about good hospices. Where are they? Which countries have good hospice/palliative care for lung cancer patients? Any specific facilities? Any help would be appreciated.

hospicecare.com
2 :
If you contact a local hospital, they should have a list of Hospices. They have a list because they discharge terminally ill patient and release them into hospice care.
3 :
IDK, but my mom has stage 4 lung cancer. so I feel for the patients. you could try http://www.cancercenter.com/ and see if they know of any. good luck to you!
4 :
My mother spent her few weeks at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY, which is solely dedicated the palliative/hospice care of terminal cancer patients. I have to say that their care and services are truly outstanding, and my mother was made comfortable there, physically, mentally and spiritually.
5 :
Hospice is not so much a place as a concept. Hospice care can be provided at home, in hospital, nursing home, assisted living facility or in a hospice house. I do not know of any hospice which is specific for lung cancer as all hospices that I know of, and the one I volunteer for, provide care for all terminal illnesses. I* am currently visiting a patient who has terminal lung cancer and he is receiving care in his own home. Most prefer to be in their own homes if practical. I suggest you first consider a non-profit hospice. I hope this helps. Peace.

How long does it take for a person who had lung cancer to recover from having 1/2 of their lung removed

How long does it take for a person who had lung cancer to recover from having 1/2 of their lung removed?
My friend had the top and part of the middle right lung removed on Jan 31, they are home from the hospital but still taking pain medication every 4 hours and still has shortness or breath. Can the cancer come back?

she's dealing with something pretty nasty -- my daughter went through the same thing. She's in touch with a support group on the internet that has really help. get in touch and I'll get the address for you.
2 :
Shortness of breath is expected after pneunectomy. However, this patient needs to consult a radiation oncologist/medical oncologist along with all operative details and pathology reports. The reason for continous pain medication needs evaluation
3 :
Cancer can reoccur . Its called a relapse. Right now she is remission . She is at higher risks of other types of cancer too. To answer your question on how long it will take for her to recover from the surgery , it can take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to fully recover . She will still have shortness of breath , her body is adjusting to the change. Good Luck to her and God Bless!
