Can congestion be a sign of lung cancer

Can congestion be a sign of lung cancer?
I am so scared that I can barely do anything without crying. There is a small chance that my husband might have lung cancer. I cannot calm down anymore. I am so scared of losing him. Is congestion and headache also a sign of lung cancer? He has been hospitalized twice with pneumonia also.

Kathleen .. why do you say he has a small chance ... the doctors say that ... or you looking at worse case scenarios? Congestion and headaches go along with pneumonia and a million other things .... calm down ... take a deep breath ... and enjoy your time with him ... regardless of the outcome ... it is sound advice .... God Bless You

What is the real cause of lung cancer from cigarettes

What is the real cause of lung cancer from cigarettes?
Is it really the nicotine or is it the carbon monoxide that goes into our lungs? This is very confusing, but I am very certain that nicotine can NOT cause cancer, at least I believe so. And yes, I am a smoker if you were wondering. Me and my big fuhriggin' mouth. :/

You're right, the nicotine is not the one that causes lung cancer (however it brings a whole host of other problems, so it's bad too) but the TAR in cigarette smoke. To put it in the simplest of terms, tar coats the lungs, reducing it's optimal capacity for gaseous exchange.
2 :
There are far more compounds in cigarette smoke than just these. There are a range of carcinogens that you are trapping in your mouth, throat and lungs where the easily cross the mucous membranes into the body to cause permanent damage.
3 :
Nicotine (along with ammonia which intensifies the nicotine) is what causes addiction. $$$$$ It's the tar...that ugly sticky tar, along with carcinogenic chemicals (around 60 so far identified out of the 4000 chemicals they somehow stuff into a cigarette lol) Tar itself has a number of carcinogens in it. When the level of carbon dioxide in your blood increases, the ability of your blood to carry oxygen is decreased. It is harmful to your body at any level and it can kill you. In a soft drink competition...the winner drank 8 large bottles in a hour....and died of too much carbon dioxide from the soft drink...random extra thrown in lol. Electronic cigarettes have only nicotine in it and you can lower the amount until you quit. Your lungs are all for this decision. :) http://www.bestecigarettesreview.com/

Have you ever seen a lung of a smoker after they die? It is black with TAR. It's the stuff that stains your teeth. It clogs your lungs. We Didn't wonder if you were a smoker, you are and your just trying to find out a reason not to stop. My Dad smoked camels for 68 years. BUT, interestingly enough at 83, he had no lung cancer. He died of emphysema. A NASTY death. Your lungs (or the little air pockets) lose the ability to force the air back out, so you steadily lose air capacity in your lungs for breathing. My Dad was on oxygen for the last 5 -8 years. and as a side note he caused my Mothers Heart condition with his smoke. They were married 61 years and sat together for a lot of those years after retirement. She died 12 months after him because her lungs and heart were so damaged she couldn't fight off a cold. So you may not give a Damn about your own health, but please consider those around you. Prove you have great will power and quit cold. You can do it. Pray when you are weak. It works every time. Happy Easter.

i wasn't going to answer this, because you had a lot of answers and I don't usually read any answers before I answers. I did this time and I read Samm answers. She is so right. Her answers sums it all up. She knows first hand what smoke can do to those who don't even smoke. I am guilty of that. Only I finally decided I had to quit for my husband's sake. My husband quit 15 yrs before he had his heart attacks. 3 in 3 weeks time and I kept smoking anyway, How stupid of me. He lost 1/3 function of his heart. Since he already quit, I felt I was responsible for his heart attacks. There's nothing worse than guilt like that. Those damn cigarettes are no good. It's not the nicotine or tobacco. That's a natural product, it's all the other junk added. If you ever saw all the stuff put into cigarettes, you'd get sick. Cleaning products contain some of the junk in those things. I am so glad I quit smoking. I did it for my husband and myself second because he's more important to me than my own satisfaction. We've been married for 30 yrs and I'm not letting cigarettes take me away from him or vice versa. Please, do what Samm said and consider stopping. Your money could be going to something better than cancer sticks. God bless

Do you smoke in your car? Have you cleaned your windshield and got all that yellow stuff on your paper towel? That is the stuff that is building up in your lungs. The stuff building up combined with the other nasty chemicals in cig smoke is what causes cancer. And NOT just lung cancer. Smoking can cause a LOT of other cancers as well.

Each year, more than 170,000 people in the United States learn that they have lung cancer*. This National Cancer Institute (NCI) booklet will give you some important information about this disease. It explains how lung cancer is diagnosed and treated, and it has information to help you deal with lung cancer if it affects you or someone you know. Other NCI booklets are listed below. Our materials cannot answer every question you may have about lung cancer. They cannot take the place of talks with doctors, nurses, and other members of the health care team. We hope our information will help with those talks. Researchers continue to look for better ways to diagnose and treat lung cancer, and our knowledge is growing. For up-to-date information, call the NCI-supported Cancer Information Service (CIS) toll free at 1-800-4-CANCER (1-800-422-6237). The CIS is described in the Resources section of this guide. *Words that may be new to readers are printed in italics. Definitions of these and other terms related to lung cancer begin on page 25. For some words, a "sounds-like" spelling is also given. The Lungs The lungs, a pair of cone-shaped organs made up of spongy, pinkish-gray tissue, are part of the respiratory system. They take up most of the space in the chest and are separated from each other by the mediastinum, an area that contains the heart, trachea (windpipe), esophagus, and many lymph nodes. The right lung has three sections, called lobes; it is a little larger than the left lung, which has two lobes.

When my mother's cancer spread to her liver, it was roughly 11 weeks til we lost her-but she did not have lung cancer. My father died of lung cancer, and once he found out he last ed 6 weeks, so we really never knew where it had spread and the extent of the metastases. Sorry to hear about his...this is a difficult time. Hang in there.
5 :
I'm not quite sure. I'm not a doctor but you should go talk to an onocologist about that. I know people are gonna rate my answer down. God bless and I hope she survives.

Does anyone know anything about squamous cell lung cancer

Does anyone know anything about squamous cell lung cancer?
I was diagnosed with lung cancer about 2 weeks ago. I haven't had a scan yet to determine the stage or whether it has spread. Upon meeting the oncologist that I have to see, she's recommending chemo. Could this mean that I have advanced cancer? I am 27 years old and have a son and has never smoked or anything. I do have a history of benign respiratory papillomas and this may be the cause of my cancer.

There is no way to tell if you have advanced lung cancer until you have further scans. You will likely have a Pet/Ct Scan, bone scan, brain scan and possibly a MRI. If the cancer is localized in one lung, surgery may be possible. If it has spread, then chemo will be your option.
2 :
i dont no how to answer your question but i wish you all the luck with your treatment and i hope you have good results in the end my uncle has been told he has it and there's nothing they cn do goodluck x

how long does a lung cancer patient have to live

how long does a lung cancer patient have to live?
day before mother's day my grandmother found out she had some spots on her lung. A couples weeks later she found out that it is cancer and that it had spread. how long do you think she has.

1 :
Depends on what type, is it Small Cell Carcinoma or another type?
2 :
That depends on the type of cancer and how willing your grandma is to fight it.
3 :
It depends on the type , extent of spread, and treatment. You don't mention if she is having and chemo or not. If they are not going to do any treatment & it has spread, prognosis for lung cancer is 3- 6 months. Some lung cancers (local with treatment, chemo, etc.) can be cured.Others can have a remission of a few years, then the cancer returns. You really can't tell so I'd recommend speaking to her MD to find out the details. If they are not going to do any treatment, please ask for a referral to hospice for they can be a great help to your grandmother & members of the family. God bless.
4 :
my mom died of lung cancer and lived for about a year and a half after she found out. she did everything to fight it though

How do you know if you have lung cancer

How do you know if you have lung cancer?
I am a 19 year old male and have been smoking for about 8 months. Usually i smoke cigs about 4-5 a day. Recently i started have some pain in my chest. Its not constant but it just comes and goes. I am just wondering could this be a sign of lung cancer? Thanks

1 :
You only know you have lung cancer when the doctor tells you. At your age it̢۪s not likely.
2 :
i doubt it, what you say is extremely rare. it could be a chest cold, passing symptoms od asthma, or humidity. But since you are so concerned, look up "lung cancer" online, and then a .edu or.org ending. I'm sure they will have information you can use.
3 :
Just Quit smoking and exercise. I had heart pains and i just started to do some serious cardio exercises like running. And the pains were gone. If you don't want to do that start smoking cigars and inhale. Then you will realize i was right.
