I have always read and heard that MJ cures cancer. How could a man, who never smoked anything more than MJ die of lung cancer

he could of got cancer from nothing but natural causes. Marajuana causes cancer . nobody said it cured it people get it prescribed to deal with the pain of cancer
2 :
people who dont smoke at all die from lung cancer. plus i think smoking anything has the potential to give u cancer. i think mj is used to help with the side effects of chemo therapy, and help them eat, and relieve the pain, i dont believe its used to cure cancer.
3 :
Marijuana is a pain reliever, not a cure. So far, there is no proven cure.
4 :
*points up at other answer* Bingo. MJ can help with pain and nausea of cancer and chemo/radiation side effects. We've yet to find a cure for cancer. Smoke going into your lungs is never healthy
5 :
sorry about your Uncle. you can get lung cancer other ways besides smoking but smoking is the most common cause. mj only eases the pain of cancer but has nothing to do with a cure
6 :
hey yes I'm a doctor too, don't believe the doctor above me, shes a fake MJ does NOT cure cancer
7 :
There is no "cure" for cancer whatsoever. Marijuana does not cure cancer, it only helps with the pain and side effects of treatment. However, marijuana does not cause cancer either. There are a TON of reasons that someone could get lung cancer- if they work around harmful chemicals, if they are around second or third hand smoke for much of their lives, and even if they just have the cancer cells and are pre determined to have it... cigarettes are the #1 cause of lung cancer but I work with cancer patients and I have spoken with several lung cancer patients who have never smoked a cigarette a day in their life. The bad thing about cancer is that it doesn't care who you are or what kind of life you lead- it can attack you no matter what. That's why we have to keep up the fight! I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle- please rest assure that he did not do anything to "bring on" the cancer. Marijuana does not aid cancer and certainly does not cause it.
8 :
It doesn't CURE cancer, it just slows down cancer cell growth by 30-50%... MJ might have lengthened you uncle's life by a few months ;)
9 :
marijuana was never thought to have been a cancer cure. Some cancer patients are in extreme pain and have a drastic loss in apetite, causing them to starve themselves. Marijuana relieves some pain and gives you the munchies, causing you to want to eat.
10 :
Mj doesnt cure cancer... it is used to treat the side effects of pain and nausea from the cancer itself or the treatment. There are different types of lung cancer, and people who have never smoked get all of them. Plus, the same chemicals in cig smoke that are linked to cancer are ALSO in marijuana smoke. Marijuana in and of itself may not cause cancer, and may potentially have properties that are useful in other medical situations. But in the smoked form, it DOES carry a risk. There have been studies to see if there is a correlation between marijuana smoke and lung cancer and copd that says smoking marijuana doesnt cause either. Even though I am pro marijuana, I do question the validity of those studies. If those studies are right, then we need to seriously re evaluate why the same chemicals in marijuana smoke dont show a correlation to cancer while they do in cig smoke, and/or the evidence that those chemicals are what leads to the correlation of cancer and cig smoke. Although, some of the chemicals HAVE been highly correlated with cancer in other contexts, such as benzene. Benzene is one of the chemicals in cig smoke, and puts the smoker at higher risk for at least leukemia. That same correlation has been found in other sources of benzene exposure.
11 :
I know several people who never smoked a day in their life who died of lung cancer. Smoking is a contributing factor, but certainly not the only factor. MJ does not cure cancer. It is used sometimes to help cancer patients deal with the pain associated with cancer, that's all.

What percentage of people survive lung cancer with early detection?10 points

What percentage of people survive lung cancer with early detection?10 points?
its small cells lung cancer and should i be worried

The word "early" is very subjective. What is early to you, may not be early to a doc. Please state the TNM score. Apparently you have a histology report. Please state it to get a more accurate answer. I don't want to jump into any guess as that's not very professional because your info is too vague. Besides, i don't want to cause any unneccessary psychological turmoil on you.
2 :
I'm not sure of the percentage however, when lung cancer is caught "in time" and ONLY if it's localized to one side. can a possible cure be gotten. Usually the only way they can get the cancer out of a lung is to remove the one lung. It can be done and the person can live a long time. My sister-in-law had a lung removed in Boston and she lived for over 30 yrs. Just don't ever take up smoking or anything else that can reintroduce cancer to one good lung. Otherwise, if it's in both lungs and it's again, localized to one tumor, then the tumor can be removed along with surrounding tissue and chemo would follow, High success rate. If chemo only is used and it's in both lungs, then the success rate drops. There are a lot more things being done for lung cancer but the best thing you as a person can do is not smoke...anything Blessings

Not contagious
10 :
the only cancer that is contagious is cervical cancer (actually the HPVirus). You may see more than one person in a household with lung cancer because of second hand smoke. The baby and you should both be fine as long as no one in the house is smoking.
11 :
No, but it sounds as if you may have been exposed to idiocentisis. I would get to a doctor, fast!
12 :
No.
13 :
dont worry you will be fine. Cancer is not contagious at ALL! u and the baby will be fine.
14 :
I am ashamed at all the fellow yahoo answers users for posting such cruel remarks. You should never be afraid to ask about something that you do not know. I'm a protective mother myself and commend you for looking out for your baby. Everyone else is right on one thing, and that is that cancer is not contagious, not even cervical cancer. HPV is a virus that has been found to on occasion lead to cervical cancer, and HPV is contagious. However, HPV is a sexually transmitted disease more commonly known as genital warts. If you and another girl both had sex with a guy who had HPV and caught it, one of you could end up with cervical cancer and the other could not. Or neither of you could get it, because cancer is not contagious.
15 :
no way JOSE!
16 :
Cancer is not contagious in anyway. Cancer is just a normal occurance in everyone's body. Your cells sometimes mutate and become "deformed" - a healthy immune system will rid the body of those cells naturally. A comprimised immune system will not, and they will collect in a certain area- like your uncle's lungs. You can not catch it, your baby can not catch it, and it is safe to let him hold the baby too.

What are the symptoms of lung cancer and emphysema

What are the symptoms of lung cancer and emphysema?
I have smoked for 14 years, and the last 3 years I have been coughing a lot and the mucus is there but I cant seem to cough it up, can someone tell me if this is cancer or emphysema?
Respiratory Diseases - 5 Answers

1 :
Coughing and can't breath, for both. Doctor could go deeper into a diagnosis and give you the good news. Pneumonia! Peace. P.S. After three years of coughing, you haven't stopped smoking? You want to commit slow suicide?
2 :
Maybe emphysema or that chronic bronchitis- which is the cause of 'smokers cough', sounds kinda like thats what you have? It could also be lung cancer but I think that has different symptoms- weight loss, coughing up blood, etc. I am not sure if it has the same symptoms as the other two early on though. You should talk to your doctor about it, they may want to run some tests? Also you may want to quit smoking at this point, most of the lung damage from all 3 of those problems will be irreversible but you don't want it to get worse. The doc can help with that
3 :
Shortness of breath is a sure sign that the lungs are damaged. Go see a doctor ASAP. He will listen to you breathe, and may order a x-ray. X-ray will show any spots caused by a lung problem. But the best thing you can do for yourself is to stop smoking; it's a loaded gun to your head.
4 :
I had no signs. I had lung cancer. I do know that my les hurt real bad to where I went to the emergency room. Thats when I found out I had cancer. more than 8 hours later on a hunch. Go to the doctor and get a chest xray.
5 :
Lung Cancer Symptoms Lung cancer symptoms that suggest lung cancer include: •Dyspnea (Shortness of Breath) •Hemoptysis (Coughing Up Blood) •Chronic Coughing or Change in Regular Coughing Pattern •Wheezing •Chest Pain or Pain in the Abdomen •Cachexia (Weight Loss), Fatigue, and Loss of Appetite •Dysphonia (Hoarse Voice) •Clubbing of the Fingernails (Uncommon) •Dysphagia (Difficulty Swallowing). If the cancer grows in the airway, it may obstruct airflow, causing breathing difficulties. This can lead to accumulation of secretions behind the blockage, predisposing the patient to pneumonia. Many lung cancers have a rich blood supply. The surface of the cancer may be fragile, leading to bleeding from the cancer into the airway. This blood may subsequently be coughed up. Depending on the type of tumor, so-called paraneoplastic phenomena may initially attract attention to the disease. In lung cancer, these phenomena may include Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (muscle weakness due to auto-antibodies), hypercalcemia, or syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SIADH). Tumors in the top (apex) of the lung, known as Pancoast tumors, may invade the local part of the sympathetic nervous system, leading to changed sweating patterns and eye muscle problems (a combination known as Horner's syndrome) as well as muscle weakness in the hands due to invasion of the brachial plexus. Many of the symptoms of lung cancer (bone pain, fever, and weight loss) are nonspecific; in the elderly, these may be attributed to comorbid illness. In many patients, the cancer has already spread beyond the original site by the time they have symptoms and seek medical attention. Common sites of metastasis include the brain, bone, adrenal glands, contralateral (opposite) lung, liver, pericardium, and kidneys. About 10% of people with lung cancer do not have symptoms at diagnosis; these cancers are incidentally found on routine chest radiograph. Lung Cancer Causes The main causes of lung cancer (and cancer in general) include carcinogens (such as those in tobacco smoke), ionizing radiation, and viral infection. This exposure causes cumulative changes to the DNA in the tissue lining the bronchi of the lungs (the bronchial epithelium). As more tissue becomes damaged, eventually a cancer develops. •Smoking Smoking, particularly of cigarettes, is by far the main contributor to lung cancer. Across the developed world, almost 90% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking. In the United States, smoking is estimated to account for 87% of lung cancer cases (90% in men and 85% in women). Among male smokers, the lifetime risk of developing lung cancer is 17.2%; among female smokers, the risk is 11.6%. This risk is significantly lower in nonsmokers: 1.3% in men and 1.4% in women. Cigarette smoke contains over 60 known carcinogens, including radioisotopes from the radon decay sequence, nitrosamine, and benzopyrene. Additionally, nicotine appears to depress the immune response to malignant growths in exposed tissue. The length of time a person smokes (as well as rate of smoking) increases the person's chance of developing lung cancer. If a person stops smoking, this chance steadily decreases as damage to the lungs is repaired and contaminant particles are gradually removed. In addition, there is evidence that lung cancer in never-smokers has a better prognosis than in smokers, and that patients who smoke at the time of diagnosis have shorter survival times than those who have quit. Passive smoking—the inhalation of smoke from another's smoking—is a cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers. A passive smoker can be classified as someone living or working with a smoker as well. Studies from the U.S., Europe, the UK, and Australia have consistently shown a significant increase in relative risk among those exposed to passive smoke. Recent investigation of sidestream smoke suggests that it is more dangerous than direct smoke inhalation. What Are The Symptoms Of Emphysema? The first sign of emphysema is shortness of breath when you are exerting yourself. Eventually, this shortness of breath may occur even when you are at rest. As the disease progresses, the following symptoms which are related to one of the other major lung diseases also caused by smoking - bronchitis - may occur: •Difficulty breathing (dyspnea - this can also be caused by emphysema) •Coughing (with or without sputum) •Wheezing (this can also be caused by emphysema itself) •Excess mucus production •A bluish tint to the skin (cyanosis) Nice To Know: If wheezing occurs, it helps to know whether it is found while breathing in or out (or both). Wheezing at the end of a complete exhalation is usually due to bronchitis. Wheezing that begins early in expiration is usually due to emphysema or the combination of bronchitis and emphysema - COPD. If you only wheeze when you breathe in, you probably have asthma (or, very rarely, a narrowing of you

What are the chances of my mother getting lung cancer

What are the chances of my mother getting lung cancer?
My mother has been smoking for about 17 years. About a year ago, she said she stopped. She did for about a month, and then started again. Now even though I don't see her, I can definitely tell she smokes at least twice a day. I'm very worried for her health. So what are her chances of getting cancer? Btw, she's 46. Thanks.
Cancer - 3 Answers

1 :
1 in 7 lifelong smokers on average gets lung/thorat cancer. However, 17 years is not considered lifelong. I believe that implies 30 years or more based on the studies that I have seen. So in your moms cases, the odds probably are not that high.
2 :
look into your mother's life pattern, that she is a heavy smokers, there is the possibility of lung cancer. We recommend that you advise your mother to reduce smoking. Begin to live healthy, multiply eat vegetables and fruit, and drink a minimum of one liter of water in one day. If you believe in herbal remedies, can try taking the herbs to clean your mother's lungs. prevention is better than later.
3 :
Not very high, most smokers don't get lung cancer. And most deaths from smoking are due to other causes, particularly heart attacks. She should definitely stop because she's reaching the age at which it can kill you.

Could this be a sign that my Dad has lung cancer

Could this be a sign that my Dad has lung cancer?
My Dad has had a persistant cough for a month now, he got antibiotics but they didnt do any good. He doesnt smoke. He went to the docs and he listened through the stethoscope and couldnt hear anything so he has to go for an xray tomorrow. Im worried that by sending him for an xray that he may have lung cancer.

Does he have shortness of breath? Does he cough up blood sometimes? Did he experience weight loss? Those are other symptoms of lung cancer.
2 :
Antibiotics kill bacteria, not viruses or cancer. Wait for the results. It may just be an allergy - I reacted like that to some new carpeting on the floor.
3 :
The doc knows that antibiotics should have responded by now. X-rays are cheap diagnostic tools and can help figure out what is going on. I bet your father started to feel better and stopped taking his antibiotics. Stopping antibiotics early is one of the dumbest things one can do. When you start again, they are no longer effective. At least with an x-ray he should get results almost immediately. If they were really worried about lung cancer they would be ordering a CT Scan. The standard procedure is the x-ray first since it is cheaper.
