Are 15 year old guys likely to get lung cancer

Are 15 year old guys likely to get lung cancer?
I've smoked about 20 something cigarettes in the entire 15 years of my life. I've had these small pains on my ribcage area for a few days now but they're not really THAT painful.. and i've lost my appetite a bit, but i still get hungry.. I'm really scared though, but no one in my family has had lung cancer.

You can get lung cancer at anytime if you smoke. 15, 10 ,20, 40 . And many other diseases.
2 :
Anyone at any age can get Lung Cancer. Lung cancer varies on its causes such as Smoking and Viral Infection. If you are concerned about your health, I recommend going to a Doctor.
3 :
You cannot get lung cancer at any age and you cannot get it at 15 years old.
4 :
Not at 15 yrs old The small pains in your rib cage area is not a symptom of lung cancer
5 :
Now that you have had this scare, it's time to quit smoking. I don't think you could have lung cancer at this young age. You may have a cold or respiratory infection. You should see a doctor.
6 :
No, 15 year olds don't get lung cancer. Lung cancer is rarely diagnosed in people younger than 40, but after 40 lung cancer rates rise sharply and peak between 75-84 years It's the length of time you're a smoker for, more than how much you smoke, that's a risk factor for lung cancer. If a smoker stops smoking at any stage, their risk of lung cancer reduces. This from Cancer Research UK: ''A lifelong male smoker has a cumulative risk of 15.9% for developing lung cancer by age 75. For men who cease smoking at ages 60, 50, 40 and 30 years, their cumulative risk of dying from lung cancer falls to 9.9%, 6.0%, 3.0% and 1.7% respectively '' You don't have lung cancer; and the best way to reduce your risk of it later in life is to make those 20 cigarettes the only ones you ever have

What is a child's risk for lung cancer from radon exposure @ 16 pCi/L

What is a child's risk for lung cancer from radon exposure @ 16 pCi/L?
We had a radon system installed last year, but for the majority of my daughter's young life, she was exposed here in our home to radon levels of approximately 16 upstairs (23 in the basement). My daughter is 3 and now has her first case of pneumonia. I saw her chest xray and the pediatrician remarked that it seemed 'streaky'. Is it possible she could have lung cancer? I want to get a second opinion on the xray.

3 year olds do not get lung cancer. Someone considered young for lung cancer is someone under 45. High radiation exposure does increase the risk for various cancers, but this does not happen overnight. The youngest person I have seen with lung cancer was 32 and it was her second cancer. When she was 8 years old she was at Chernobyl when it exploded.
2 :
16 pCi/L is a high level. But I hope you are overreacting. Do you monitor the radon level? Here is a place to read more: http://www.radon-solution.com/ I use the radon safety siren to continuously monitor the radon level to be sure the system works. Good luck!

my grandpa just found out he has lung cancer and cancer in the liver can that kill him

my grandpa just found out he has lung cancer and cancer in the liver can that kill him?
okay my grandpa just told the family that he has lung cancer and cancer in the liver...and about a year ago he was caughling up blood and we told him to go get it checked out and he never did. if he was doing that is there anyway he can get better?

Unfortunately, that is not good if he has cancer in both the lung and liver. This indicates metastases (spread). Chances are that paliative therapy is likely the only option (treat the symptoms and make him comfortable).
2 :
Not only can it kill him, it probably will kill him. Sorry. He has what's called "metastatic cancer" and when it starts spreading like that, it's a lot harder to cure. However, it can be treated with chemo, radiation, and/or surgery and that treatment can greatly extend his life. It's not hopeless, but yes, there is a chance that he could die. So spend lots of time with him and tell him that you love him.
3 :
This is not good news for your grandpa. As someone said, spend as much time with him as you can. That's the best medicine for someone with this type of spreading cancer. He will appreciate that more than you will know. BSherman, tremendous answer. Compassionate and informational. I wish I knew someone like you when my father had the same prognosis.
4 :
Based upon your description, your grandfather has stage 4 lung cancer with liver metastasis. This means that the cancer originated in his lung, but is now spreading elsewhere in his body, with the liver presenting a secondary tumor. Unfortunately, his condition has a generally poor prognosis. Your grandfather's oncologist will likely recommend chemotherapy, since that is capable of slowing the advance of cancer on a system-wide basis. Targeted treatments such as surgery and radiation may have some value too, but that will depend upon the medical specifics of his case. Your grandfather's quality of life is an emerging issue. The potential benefits of any treatment undertaken must be balanced against its costs and risks, including undesirable side-effects. Best wishes to your family.

How do I know if I have lung cancer

How do I know if I have lung cancer?
So last week I accidentally smoked two of my sister's cigarettes. How long until I get cancer in my lungs?

You should feel it in about 10 minutes. You'll be dead by the end of the day.
2 :
It usually happens after 2 weeks. Next time make sure its your sisters dildos you are putting in your mouth...you don't want to make the same mistake again.
3 :
My mum has been smoking for 30 odd years and she's fine. Dont worry :)
4 :
Umm two cigarettes dosent usually do it I don't know if your weird or its just true hedre arwe signs A new cough in a smoker or a former smoker should raise concern for lung cancer. A cough that does not go away or gets worse over time should be evaluated by a health-care provider. Coughing up blood (hemoptysis) occurs in a significant number of people who have lung cancer. Any amount of coughed-up blood is cause for concern. Chest pain is a symptom in about one-fourth of people with lung cancer. The pain is dull, aching, and persistent. Shortness of breath usually results from a blockage to the flow of air in part of the lung, collection of fluid around the lung (pleural effusion), or the spread of tumor throughout the lungs.Hoep thsi helps! Wheezing or hoarseness may signal blockage or inflammation in the lungs that may go along with cancer. Repeated respiratory infections, such as bronchitis or pneumonia, can be a sign of lung cancer.

Birthday Gift Giving Etiquette for my close friend who just lost her mother to lung cancer

Birthday Gift Giving Etiquette for my close friend who just lost her mother to lung cancer?
3 weeks ago my good friend's mother died of lung cancer. My friend's birthday is in a couple of weeks. I am sure everyone has seen the personalized photo stamps. Well, I wanted to design an "in memory of" stamp with my friends mother's photo on the stamp. What is everyone's thoughts? Too soon to do? Personally I "think" I would have thought it was really thoughtful and nice thing to do. I would proudly use the stamps with my mother's photo, whom I did lose when I was 26!

Well, I think its a nice idea, and everyone heals in there own time. So wether or not your friend uses them yet, or is ready for something like that, Im sure your friend will like it either way. It may bring tears, but eventually your friend will be ready to accept this and move on and your special gift will always bring him/her good memories.
2 :
I think that's precious. Go for it.
3 :
please refrain in respect for her mother. Generally grieving is for one year. I would also think she would not feel like celebrating her birthday. Why not just take her to lunch in lieu of a bcard.
4 :
That is a lovely idea, although I'm not sure that her birthday is the correct occasion to give it to her. Shortly after the funeral might have been better so she could use them for the Thank You cards. Of course, the more I think about it she might want to use them more for personal use. I guess you know her better than I do. When I lost my sister it was very hard for me to look at a photo of her without falling apart for over a year. I can see that might be a problem for your friend as well. If you give these to her do it as delicately and respectfully as possible. It's kind of a risky gift, but if you give it to her with lots of love and friendship then I'm sure she'll take it in the spirit in which it's intended. Best Wishes. :)

does the cancer cells spreads from lung to blood

does the cancer cells spreads from lung to blood?
so my friend got lung cancer. and i was worried that he get leukemia. so i want to know, does the cancer cells transfer from the lungs to the blood, like if he had cancer in his lungs will he get cancer in his blood too? if yes, what is the best treatment?

1 :
I am not 100% sure but cancer can spread anywhere. But one thing I have recently learned is that is he has lung cancer, that means the primary tumor is in his lung. If it spreads to his blood, or anywhere else, it is still lung cancer but it is lung cancer that has spread to the blood, or wherever. It is still lung cancer, though. From an unfortunate and very recent experience with this terrible disease, one thing you need to always keep in mind. Really. Read this carefully: Everyone will react differently. Everyone's cancer will progress or go away differently. So my advice to you is: 1> ALWAYS remain positive. While some cancer survival rates are very low, with lung cancer being one of them, SOMEONE has to be the one to survive so why not your friend? -and 2> While being positive, it is very important that you not lose sight of what the other end of the spectrum could be. Failure to keep the best AND worst case scenario in mind will only cause you more suffering. So, even if it seems like things are dire, keep hope alive. But be realistic as well. Treatments are also very personal. The type and stage of cancer will determine treatment. Generally, surgical removal of the tumor, radiation, chemotherapy are the big ones. But again, talk to his doctor for the best treatment for him.
2 :
Cancer spreads to distant sites through the bloodstream or the lymphatic system. However, if someone has lung cancer and later develops leukemia it is a separate disease not caused by metastases.
3 :
Mohamad, As-Salaam (السلام). A cancer that starts in the lung ("primary lung site") can grow (invade) veins in the lung and then move (metastasize) to the left side of the heart and out the aorta artery to almost everywhere in the body. When these lung cancer cells are in the blood, it is not called leukemia but rather circulating tumor cells in the blood. Leukemia is just one form of cancer that refers to immature and/or abnormal white blood cells ("leukocytes") which are seem first in the circulating blood and then may appear in any body tissues, including the lung. Most tumor cells are much larger than white blood cells (leukocytes) and cannot circulate in tiny blood vessels (capillaries). There is no true connection between lung cancer and leukemia, of which there are several types).

Has anyone ever lost a parent to lung cancer

Has anyone ever lost a parent to lung cancer?
I just found out my mother has lung cancer. Of coarse she has smoked since she was 16 and she is now 77. I can't believe this. I need my mom. I don't know how to get thru this.

I've recently (October) lost my grandmother to stage 4 lung cancer. She started smoking at an early age. She was 67 when she passed away. It's not going to be easy to get through, and there isn't anything that anyone in a blog can say to comfort you...you'll have to find what works best for you to cope. Try to remember that she's had a great 77 years here on earth...think about the positive, good times...
3 :
my dad has nsclc in his spine. he's had radiation and 4 sets of chemo. he sleeps all day and doesn't eat much or drink much. it's hard especially when his feelings are so guarded by himself. i think you will and have to get through this just like anyone. remember to take care of your health (mind, emotions, and body) i'm going through this as well...i'm very emotional and am trying hard to help my dad and make things easier...even though he doesn't help me with communicating how i can help. i try and give my dad good energy through touch...touching his hand, his back, and his knee etc. giving as many hugs as he can handle. cry and stay sane...do what you feel and try to get in touch with that.

I lost my mom to non small cell lung cancer 4 yrs ago. I was extremely close to her and she was my best friend, and I miss her each and everyday. It still breaks my heart that she didn't get to meet my youngest son, she was a special person who would have loved my son and accepted him and been there for him when he went in for open heart surgery (my son has down syndrome) at 4 months old. but I take heart in the fact that my son now has a very special angel looking out for him. My mom died on DEC 3rd 2002....one week to the day after her death my dad died of a broken heart on DEC10th 2002 and one year to the day of my dad's death my beautiful son was born...I have had my share of heartache. with the birth of my son Nick it replaced a day of sadness with one of happiness and I see my mom in my son's gorgeous blue eyes. It is a tough road you are heading down with your mom, but the best advice I could ever give you is to be there and support her....and never, ever give up hope! don't treat her any differently than you have in the past...be there for whatever she may need and never ever forget to tell her you love her. I wish you the strength and the courage to get through these next months...God bless.

Hi, I know how you feel. I lost my mum to cancer 8 months ago not to lung cancer but to bowel and liver cancer at the age of 60. Since her death I am lost without her she was my best friend apart from being my mum. You have to take day by day and be there for her, there is nothing else you can do really but just support her and give her anything she wants. My mum used to be a very healthy person never smoked in her life, never drunk alcohol and always ate healthy food as she was always looking after her figure but bless her when she knew she was terminal she was not bothered about her weight any more, she was loosing it anyway. All she wanted was chocolates and sweet things, all that she wanted I gave to her. When my mum passed away in May 2006 I thought I could not live without her but life carries on and I am grateful for all the nice times we had together and with four children at home I have to be strong so sweetie be there for her she needs you now more than ever and when everything is over do not worry you will find the strength to carry on. Your mum will be in my prayers God Bless you all. If you need to talk do not hesitate to email me.

Can a Dog or Cat get lung cancer from second hand smoke?

Can a Dog or Cat get lung cancer from second hand smoke? ?
Can a Dog or Cat get lung cancer from second hand smoke? We know about humans getting it because when a human dies there is always an autopsy. We don't do autopsy's on animals when they die.

When the body of an animal is dissected to determine the cause of death it is called a necropsy ("autopsy" has the root "auto" which means whatever is being dissected is the same species as you). Your vet may actually do one if you request it, I guess it depends on their preferences and training. I have never heard of a cat or dog getting lung cancer this way - usually when you hear about cancers in animals it is in their skin or reproductive organs. I would be interested to know the answer, as well!
2 :
i am sure that they can to some extent but proving that it was cigarette related could be a serious undertaking. pets do not have the same life expectancy s humans so building up enough crud from the environment would take a lot more than what is normal for any of us, so much that i think that an intelligent animal would leave to a safer environment. sure i am not a animal biologist but this is how i see it. animals are not stupid, if they see a bad situation they leave that environment.
