Yes, you need a chest x-ray and usually CT scan which is also x-ray imaging (computerized tomography) - - BUT - - you must also have a biopsy.
2 :
its a special kind of x-ray, where the doctor takes a look at ur cells, if there a lot of the, then theres cancer :(
3 :
yes when doing x-ray you can see your lung. x-rays can show you if you have water in your lungs , discolor or even a lump.

Here's a couple of good websites: http://www.lungcancer.org/ http://www.lungcanceronline.org/ http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=35427
2 :
Hi, I've looked at one site, that would answer most of your questions. It also has links to other websites that may be able to answer your questions. The site is: http://www.disability.vic.gov.au/dsonline/dsarticles.nsf/pages/Lung_cancer?OpenDocument Alternatively you could type lung cancer into Google and see what other sites turn up. Good luck with your assignment!
3 :
Try the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute, Medline Plus, People Living with Cancer, and Cancerbackup they all have excellent information about cancer: ACS http://www.cancer.org/docroot/home/index.asp National Cancer Institute http://www.cancer.gov/ Medline Plus: Lung Cancer http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/lungcancer.html People Living with Cancer http://www.plwc.org/portal/site/PLWC Cancerbackup http://www.cancerbackup.org.uk/Home

Whats the youngest person to have ever got lung cancer ON RECORD

Whats the youngest person to have ever got lung cancer ON RECORD?
Just wondering. I'm a hypochondriac i'm 15 and supposedly have an allergen caused cough. I'm worried even though I shouldn't. The cough has actually been going away a little with spring long gone :) but i'm still that little worry wart. What's the youngest person to have developed lung cancer? With or without smoking. Please have something reliable.

You don't have lung cancer. There are many more factors other than a cough, especially if you don't smoke. With that said, babies can have lung cancer. Talc powder isn't used for baby powder much any more because talc can cause lung cancer if overly inhaled. Baby powder is mostly cornstarch based for this reason. But what you describe sounds nothing like lung cancer.
2 :
There were none under 30 years old from 2002-2006, but what difference does it make? You have been to a doctor more than once and you know you donĂ¢€™t have lung cancer. The problem is you are going to the wrong doctor. You need to see one to deal with your hypochondria as that is your real problem.
3 :
It normally takes 20-30 years for lung cancer to develop. development of cancer before the time limit of 20 years is very rare. the first signs of lung cancer include a cough with blood. At your age, it is very unlikely for you to have lung cancer. For your personal satisfaction you should see your doctor.

Lost my dad 2 weeks after he was diagnosed. He thought he had pneumonia. Death depends on the individual, and the severity of the disease. Dads cancer had already spread to vital organs, before he decided to get checked out.
2 :
I'm soo sorry honey! I;ve just lost my mum to cancer and it's not a pretty thing... no body can be sure of a cure, otherwise it would be similar to the common cold, but keep your head up and stay positive for him. Support him and be with him and keep him laughing :)
3 :
My friends grandma had lung cancer. She was diagnosed about 7 years ago and has had surgery but now she is still living. So i guess it all depends on the person and how far along their cancer is
4 :
Your Dad's prognosis depends upon the stage of his cancer (tumor size and whether it has spread), its rate of growth, how well your Dad responds to treatment, and his overall health. Your Dad may not yet know all of this information. Staging is typically not definitive until after surgery is completed and pathological analysis of lymph nodes and structures near his primary tumor are completed. Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and follow-on medications are the tools used to fight cancer. You can learn more about cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis by visiting the American Cancer Society website. Best wishes to your entire family during this difficult time.
5 :
I'm very sorry about your dad. It depends on what stage his lung cancer is, and what type he has. Non small cell is slow growing and slow moving lung cancer. Small cell is faster spreading through the lung and body. If his cancer was caught early. Stage one or two he has a better chance. It really depends on that. I'm a lung cancer survivor. I had non small cell, and was stage 2 when diagnosed. My treatments worked very well. I hope your dad was diagnosed early and that he makes it.

What are the odds of passing away from lung cancer

I think it has a roughly 16% 5 year survival rate. That means that 16% of people diagnosed with lung cancer will still be alive after 5 years. I really hope your father is one of them.
2 :
It depends on which stage he is at. We just buried my Uncle who had Stage 4 Lung Cancer that spread to his kidneys. He quit smoking 10 years ago, woke up with a cough, couldn't catch his breath, and that was it. They gave him 3 months and they were right on the money. The best person to ask is your father's doctor.
3 :
My sister-in-law had it about 3 years ago. they did surgery and thank God she is still with us. Just keep praying. That's what we all did. Hope things work out for him. Just stay strong and keep a good attitude as hard as that will be. He needs to be around good attitudes... I will say a prayer for him..

There are many many treatments for lung cancer, it depends what stage the cancer is at, and what Type of treatment you are looking for. I have pasted a few links for you to look at. The first one is about serrapeptase, it's a non pharmaceutical drug that has been around for years and has brought remarkable healing to many people from all sorts of health conditions. It's also for animals. My dog had an oral cancerous tumor and after 3 weeks of being given serrapeptase, his tumor is gone. The last link will teach you all about lung cancer.
2 :
1. Chemotherapy is an anti cancer drugs are given to stop cancer cells from multiplying. This treatment is most effective for small cell carcinoma. 2. Surgery to remove the affected part of the lung or an entire lung. This offers the best chance to cure lung cancer if the cancer has not spread beyond the lungs. 3. Radiotherapy use of x-rays to target and kill cancer cells. It may be used against some early stage lung cancers and to cure cancer in the lymph nodes from spreading further. 4. Targeted therapy is use of small molecules, often in tablet form that may be used after chemotherapy. 5. Clinical trials is a participation in a clinical trial that investigates the safety and effectiveness of novel drugs may be offered.

Is it possible for my friend to be telling the truth about him having lung cancer

Is it possible for my friend to be telling the truth about him having lung cancer?
My friend who lives abroad just told me over msn that he has lung cancer. he is 17 and has been smoking since he was 13.I really don't know weather to believe him or not.. and i feel bad for doubting him but he seems to tell lies a lot and over exaggerates hims. <div> is it possible for him to have it?

only if his whole family smokes and he has been around since he was a infant 24/7 i dought it
2 :
I don't think he would at 17 and after 4 years of smoking but if he doesn't stop he could be on his way to getting cancer someday :(
3 :
It sure seems mighty unlikely. Maybe he can see the future.
4 :
if u belive him.... u should belive me...."I LOVE U"
5 :
Highly unlikely.
6 :
Of course it's possible. The fact that a cancer is rare for a certain group doesn't mean that there's no chance of someone in that group getting it. Apparently there are people who lie about having cancer for some reason, so just because it's possible for him to have it now doesn't mean he does.
7 :
Not by smoking but there is other types of lung cancer non smokers can get but I think he is lying - ignore him for a while or tell him you are busy nd will get back to him in a few weeks and see what happens. If he does have lung cancer he will be in hospital most of the time and not on msn?
8 :
Very, very unlikely. To find out if he is lying just ask about the cancer staging, lymph involvement, treatment plan, and other specifics. If he stutters a meaningless response then you know he is a liar.
9 :
Nah, he's lying or confused. You can't get it from smoking in that time -- it takes many years of heavy smoking -- and it's highly unlikely that he would have it at that age from anything else (radon, asbestos, etc.). He may be suffering from hypochondria and convincing himself that he has something without an actual diagnosis. I suggest you ask him if he's been to a doctor, and if not, encourage him to go and get a checkup to set his mind at ease.
10 :
evangeline - Your friend does NOT have a lung cancer that has anything to do with only 4 years of smoking at his present age of 17. There are other cancers in the chest, such as Hodgkin's lymphoma, which occur in the chest, but technically they are in the area of the center of the chest, between the two lungs, known as the mediastinum.
