Anyone have any information on outcome of stage 3 Lung Cancer

Anyone have any information on outcome of stage 3 Lung Cancer?
My mom found out 4 months ago she had stage 3 lung cancer she had 35% of the lung removed just completed her Chemo and radiation. She had a scan done yesterday it came back clear. Are her chances of survival higher now. And hopefully it is completely gone. Her surgeon lead us to believe she would only have 2 years with us...

Hi Rena, it seems pretty good that the scan came back clear...I wonder why the surgeon told you that she had an estimated life expectancy of 2 years if the scans came back clear- did he say that before the results of the scan? I dont know much about it so I can't give a very knowledgeable answer, but here is a good site that explains a lot about lung cancer, it's a British site but it's more or less the same as in the U.S.A. http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/type/lung-cancer/index.htm?script=true Best wishes to you and your mother.

I don't know if there is any way to really predict based on that information, but I did want to share my Dad's story to give you a little hope. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to have one full lung removed (and also underwent chemo and radiation). He survived for another 15 years before suffering from another unfortunate bout of cancer which was completely unrelated to the first. However, he did really well for all those years while only having one lung. The remaining lung became larger and stronger, kind of a super-lung. I do hope that your mother continues to do well. It really is hard to deal with serious illness when it is a parent and hope that you have all the support you need. Take care!
